United Nations, September 28, 2021 (PPI-OT):The United Nations has expressed the hope that dialogue will take place between Pakistan and India to resolve the Kashmir dispute and other bilateral issues.

Referring to the heated exchange of remarks by the representatives of the two countries after Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in his address to the 76the UN General Assembly session on Friday, Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, said, “We heard the remarks, and I think, despite the tone and the content of the remarks, we always remain hopeful that dialogue can happen, maybe in a place that is not under the spotlights, Stephane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary-General, said at the daily press briefing.

Dujarric was responding to a question that in the wake of the heated exchanges witnessed between India and Pakistan during the high level UN General Assembly session last week, is the UN concerned about peace in the region and if the Secretary General is planning to speak to leaders of the two countries.

Imran Khan, in his address, had spoken about the August 5, 2019 decision of the Indian government on the abrogation of Article 370 as well as the forced and besieged burial of veteran Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Gilani.

Srinagar, September 28, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir,: Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action (AAC) has expressed serious concern over the prevailing political situation in the territory. AAC committee at a meeting at the party headquarters Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal in Srinagar, today, expressed serious concern over the increasing oppression and violation of human rights by the Indian occupation forces. The participants of the meeting strongly condemned the continued house arrest of party head Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

They said arbitrary and undue restrictions on the peaceful religious, social and political activities of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq are aimed at keeping him away from his people. If the authorities, they said, will not end anti-Kashmir policies, strong anger and resentment will be there on ground.

The party also expressed serious concern over the detention of Hurriyat leaders, activists and youth languishing in Tihar, Jodhpur, Agra, Amphalla and Haryana jails as well in jails of the territory. They demanded immediate release of all political prisoners including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The participants urged United Nations to play its effective role in resolving the longstanding Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of its people to ensure a lasting peace in the region.

Jammu, September 28, 2021 (PPI-OT):Demonstrations and rallies were held across Jammu district in support of the Bharat Bandh called by farmers to demand repeal of the Centre’s three agricultural laws. Led by Communist Party of India (Marxist) MY Tarigami, hundreds of activists and farmers took out a rally and sat on a dharna on the main road here, leading to disruption of traffic.

Addressing the activists, Tarigami said the laws were bound to “destroy the agriculture sector and threaten India’s food security”. “Besides, these laws will lay the basis for abolishment of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and mortgage the country’s agriculture and markets to the corporate sector,” he said.

Om Prakash, General Secretary of Centre of Indian Trade Unions, said there was a need to strengthen worker-peasant unity to fight the “neo-liberal policies and attack on the livelihood” of farmers and working class. A similar demonstration was held in Srinagar where farmer leaders Abdul Rashid Pandit, Qadir Hafroo and Abdul Rashid Itoo demanded MSP for farm produce.

Many non-NDA parties extended support to the nationwide 10-hour strike called by farmers protesting against the three agri laws under the aegis of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM). The government and farmer unions have held 11 rounds of talks so far, the last being on January 22, to break the deadlock over the new farm laws.

Karachi, September 28, 2021 (PPI-OT):As many as 18 more patients of Coronavirus died overnight lifting the death toll to 7,379 and 554 new cases emerged when 14,781 tests were conducted. This was stated by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in a statement issued here on Tuesday. He added that 18 more patients of COVID-19 lost their lives lifting the death toll to 7,379 that constituted 1.6 percent death rate. Mr. Shah said that 14,781 samples were tested which detected 554 cases that constituted 3.7 percent current detection rate.

He added that so far 5,995,665 tests have been conducted against which 456,108 cases were diagnosed, of them 93.8 percent or 427,607 patients have recovered, including 1314 overnight. The CM said that currently 21,122 patients were under treatment, of them 20,634 were in home isolation, 35 at isolation centres and 453 at different hospitals. He added that the condition of 414 patients was stated to be critical, including 39 shifted to ventilators.

According to the statement, out of 554 new cases, 193 have been detected from Karachi, including 63 from South, 59 East, 31 Korangi, 19 Central, 11 West 17 Malir 10. Hyderabad has 141, Shikarpur 26, Tharparkar 23, Jamshoro and Sukkur 17 each, Badin 16, Sanghar and Tando Muhammad Khan 14 each, Thatta 13, Naushero Feroze and Umerkot 12 each, Tando Allahyar 11, Ghotki and Jacobabad 10 each, Mirpurkhas eight, Kashmore three, Dadu one. Murad Ali Shah urged people to abide by the SOPs issued by the government.

Karachi, September 28, 2021 (PPI-OT):Closing ceremony of 3rd Chief of the Naval Staff all Pakistan Hockey Tournament was held at Abdul Sattar Edhi International Hockey Stadium, Karachi. Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi, Chief of the Naval Staff graced the occasion as Chief Guest and gave away prizes to the winning and runner up teams.

8 x top national teams competed for the title which included WAPDA, MPCL, NBP, PN, PAF, ARMY, Punjab and PQA. Final match of the championship was played between WAPDA and NBP teams. After a tough competition NBP won the match, whereas WAPDA and Pakistan Navy secured second and third position, respectively.

NBP received a cash prize of Rs 1.7 M for winning the championship. WAPDA and Pakistan Navy won Rs 1.3 M and 1 M for securing 2nd and 3rd position respectively. Mr Dilbar of NBP team was declared as Man of the tournament. Mr Muhammad Iqbal of Pakistan Navy team and Mr Dilbar of NBP teams were declared best Goalkeeper and best scorer of the tournament, respectively.

The seven days long championship, held from 21 to 28 September 2021, has become a quintessential tournament at the national circuit since 2016. Around 12 x pool matches followed by 2 x semi-finals and final matches were conducted through professional umpires of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF). With a prize money of PKR 4.2M, the event continues to be the highest prize money hockey tournament of the country. More than 128 enthusiastic players of the country participated in this prestigious event.

In closing remarks, worthy Chief Guest congratulated the winning teams and applauded efforts put in by the Patron PN Hockey, Commander Karachi, PHF and sponsors. He hoped that this tournament will certainly contribute in raising public interest in the national game and will help in revival of hockey.

Chief of the Naval Staff appreciated the role played by media in promotion of sports especially the wide coverage given to 3rd Chief of the Naval Staff All Pakistan Hockey Tournament 2021. Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi also urged the public and private departments/ organizations to come forward and help in revival of the national game. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from Armed forces, civil notables and ex-Olympians.
