Kamyab Jawan 42nd National Kabaddi Championship Concludes

Islamabad:Prime Minister’s Kamyab Jawan 42nd National Kabaddi Championship concluded at Punjab Stadium, Lahore. It was jointly organized by HEC Kamyab Jawan Sports and Co-Curricular Division and University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore.

As many as 16 teams participated in the championship. After a tough competition, Pakistan WAPDA and Air Force managed to take 1st position after getting 46 points each. Army was runner up while Police finished at third place.

Minister of State for Information Mr. Farrukh Habib was chief guest at the closing ceremony. Trophies and medals were distributed among the winning teams by Mr. Shafay Hussain, President Kabaddi Federation. Mr. Usman Dar, SAPM on Youth Affairs, Dr. Nasim Ahmed, Vice Chancellor UVAS, Mr. Javed Memon, Incharge Kamyab Jawan Sports Division HEC, Mr. Arshad Sattar, Vice President, Pakistan Wrestling Federation were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the audience, the Minister congratulated the winning teams and, advised those who could not secure any position to learn from their mistakes, and perform better next time. He said that Pakistani youth need out of the box solution for their problems, and Mr. Usman Dar through Kamyab Jawan programme has provided a number of such opportunities.

Under this Programme, a series of talent hunt for sports is going to be launched in this month in which youth aged 15-25 will give trials in 12 men and 10 women sports. The programme is for all Pakistani/AJK nationals and trials will be held on 25 sites/locations. The selected pool of talented players will be taken from regional level to international level. In this regard, 12 Sports Academies and one High Performance Human Performance Lab is also going to be established.

A young man commit suicide in Duki

DUKI:Young man shot himself dead in Gharibabad area of Duki in Balochistan province on Monday.

According to rescue sources, young man namely Muhammad Anwar son of Nawab Khan Nasar, resident of Gharibabad, Duki, committed suicide by shooting himself dead at his home in Gharibabad area of Duki.

The body was shifted to Civil Hospital, Duki for completion of codal formalities and later handed over to the heirs after fulfilling necessary medico-legal formalities. The incident has created a mourning atmosphere in the victim’s house. The deceased was reported to a sentinel of Duki city, however, motive of committing suicide could not be ascertained till writing this report.

Bizenjo raises Balochistan Awami Endowment Fund to Rs6bn

QUETTA:Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, has approved summary for increasing the fund of Balochistan Awami Endowment Fund (BAEF) to the tune of Rs6 billion, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Monday.

A summary, initiated by Social Welfare Department with the proposal of increasing the seed money of the fund of Balochistan Awami Endowment Fund from 04 billion to 06 billion, has been approved by the Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo.

BAEF, dealt with by Social Welfare Department, Government of Balochistan, is meant to provide healthcare facilities to the patients of Balochistan province suffering from cancer, liver and kidney diseases without any discrimination in the hospitals of Quetta and others areas of the country.

Iranian authorities arrest 68 immigrants at Taftan border

TAFTAN:Iranian authorities arrested 68 immigrants without documents and handed them over to levies force at Taftan border on Monday.

According to levies force, a group of 68 Pakistani nationals wanted to proceed to Europe via Turkey and Greece in search of employment through agents, but they were arrested by Iranian authorities who later handed them over levies force on the Taftan border. Among the detained immigrants, 51 belonged to Punjab, 11 KPK and 6 from Balochistan province. Further investigation was being conducted by the concerned authorities.

Travel ban on tourists entry in Murree lifted

MURREE:The government on Monday lifted a travel ban on entry of tourists in Murree and Galiyat more than one week after the Murree snowfall tragedy that claimed 23 lives.

The Punjab government had barred tourists from entering Murree except for locals by setting up a roadblock after the Murree tragedy. After 8 days, the district administration gave conditional permission to tourists to enter Murree after January 17.

As many as 8000 vehicles will be able to enter the hill station and entry will be banned from 5 pm to 5 am, however, locals and military vehicles including Azad Kashmir will be exempted from this ban.

According to the traffic police, only 900 vehicles entered Murree on the first day. A record of in and out of tourist vehicles is also being compiled from the main entry point of Murree. Hotels have also reduced their rents due to less tourists.

Last week, the government had extended the ban on entry into Murree for six more days until 17 January 2022. The announcement was made by the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) on its Twitter handle. “Entry into Murree Banned,” wrote the NHMP on its Twitter handle, adding the ban will remain in place until 17 January 2022 as per directions issued by the District Administration.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial appointed as new CJP

ISLAMABAD:Justice Umar Ata Bandial was appointed as Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) on Monday.

According to a report, Justice Umar Ata Bandial will assume the post of Chief Justice from February 2, 2022. The Ministry of Law and Justice has issued a notification of the appointment after the approval of President Dr Arif Alvi today.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial is currently the most senior judge of the Supreme Court. He (born 17 September 1958) has been a Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan since 17 June 2014. Justice Bandial will become chief justice for one year, six months and 25 days from 2 February 2022 until 16 September 2023.

He received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Columbia University in 1979 and received his law degree from the University of Cambridge in 1981. Justice Umar Ata Bandial had been elevated as an LHC judge on December 4, 2004.

(Special Ministerial Committee reviews Pakistan, UK extradition treaty)

ISLAMABAD:A meeting of the Special Ministerial Committee regarding extradition treaty between Pakistan and the United Kingdom was held here on Monday with Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in the chair.

The committee decided that an agreement between Pakistan and UK for the repatriation of criminals will be signed in the best interest of the public. It also decided that UK authorities will be consulted further before presenting the agreement to the federal cabinet. The agreement would allow Pakistan and UK to repatriate their convicted criminals. It will only allow the repatriation of citizens who have been sentenced by the relevant courts.

After consultation with the UK, the draft agreement will be submitted to the Federal Cabinet for final approval. The first round of negotiations on a criminal extradition treaty was held in October 2019. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Human Rights Minister Dr Shireen Mazari and Adviser on Accountability and Interior Shahzad Akbar attended the meeting.
