Head constable electrocuted to death in Multan

MULTAN: A young head constable was electrocuted to death last Sunday night in Multan, police spokesman said on Monday.

Muhammad Imran Khan, aged 40, was going from hostel to cafeteria during raining when he received electric shocks from the pole due to strong winds. He was rushed to Nishtar hospital in a college ambulance, where doctors pronounced him dead sometime after arrival The police said he died in the line of duty. The body of martyred police officer was sent to his native town, Hasilpur of district Bahawalpur.

Karachi’s Yusuf Goth submerges in rainwater

KARACHI: Yusuf Goth in Surjani area of Karachi was inundated due to heavy rain, suspending social and business life.

The intermittent rain from last night to today evening submerged Yusuf Goth area in ​​Karachi. As a result, people are trapped in the water, making their routine life miserbale. A five-fee deep water has accumulated in the area. The rainwater has entered in many houses as the authorities have badly failed to drain it out.

The families were struggling to make their way through water standing up to several feet. Rescue teams however were busy to drain out rainwater. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) informed on Monday that strong monsoon currents are continuously penetrating in upper, central and southern parts of the country.

The situation of rainwater may worsen as Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said in its daily report today that heavy rains may generate urban flooding in Karachi. Punjab CM election case: SC rejects appeal to constitute full court

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the ruling party’s petition seeking formation of a full court bench to hear the case pertaining to the ruling of the Punjab Deputy Speaker about election of Hamza Shahbaz as Punjab Chief Minister.

A three-member SC bench comprising Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar rejected the petition from the ruling parties and the bar to form a full court. However, the court adjourned the hearing on Ch Parvez Elahi’s petition against the ruling of the Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari in the election of the Chief Minister till tomorrow (Tuesday) 11:30 pm. Lawyers will present arguments on merits of the case tomorrow.

The apex court said that according to the Constitution of Pakistan, the parliamentary party gives instructions to vote. The court further said in its decision that the Supreme Court has already given a brief decision on Article 63A on May 17. The court said that facts in re-election case are different from case on dissident MPAs.

On the appeal of the full court from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) as a party in Ch Parvez Elahi’s petition against the ruling of the Punjab Deputy Speaker, CJP Justice Bandial said Hamza Shehbaz needed solid grounds to retain Punjab Chief Minister. He said today, that the highest vote-gainer is out and a candidate who has taken only 179 votes is the Chief Minister.

The Supreme Court has decided to hear all the parties first and then decide whether to form a full court or not. The hearing in the SC started after a break at 5:30 pm sharp and Chief Justice said they have considered making a full court, but then thought should first look at the facts of the case. On this, Hamza Shehbaz’s lawyer and others asked for time to consult with their parties in case of not form a full court.

CJP Bandial remarks party head will have to listen to the parliamentary party’s opinion, adding full bench is formed only in serious matters. Justice Ahsan said parliamentary party decides who to vote for in the assembly. Justice Ahsan observes deputy speaker exceeded court’s interpretation in his ruling.

Mazari’s lawyer Irfan Qadir said he was instructed to speak regarding the formation of the full court only; therefore, he needed time to take instructions from his client. Hamza Shahbaz’s counsellor Mansoor Awan also sought time to take instructions for arguments on merit. After hearing the arguments, the CJP said Supreme Court sent the prime minister home with five judges at that time you [coalition parties] were celebrating and now you are standing against this.

PTI leader announces to join PPP

LARKANA: PTI’s former central leader Intizar Abro on Monday announced to join the People’s Party.

This announcement was made by him during a meeting with President of PPP Sindh Nisar Ahmad Khuhro at his residence in Larkani on Monday. On that occasion, Nisar Khuhro welcomed him for joining the party and said that Imran Khan is now being abandoned by his own party after the coalition parties, because he has proved to be a disappointed and unsuccessful leader and he is not a supporter of democracy, which is why he wants support of the empire in any case and he dislike democratic forces.

Khuhro said that Asif Zardari is riding on the minds of Imran Khan and his Twitter brigade, due to which false rumors are being spread about Asif Zardari. Even in a difficult situation, he spent more than 11 years in prison and fought with dictators, now Imran Khan is not a matter of concern. He said Asif Zardari has gone to Dubai to attend the birthday of his grandchild but PTI and other opponents have taken the sky over their head.

Govt colleges to have third shift across Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab Higher Education Department Monday decided to start a third shift in the government colleges to accommodate the rising number of admissions. It is learnt that there will be a third shift after 4pm in the government colleges.

According to DPI Colleges Dr Ashiq Hussain, the number of shifts has been increased in the single-shift government colleges too across the province including Lahore. “The purpose of increasing shifts is to provide educational facilities to more students,” the DPI Colleges said.

“With the third shift, the target of admissions into colleges has also been increased from 1.1 million to 1.5 million,” he added. “This academic year, more than 1.1 million students were admitted to the colleges. For the next academic year, the target of admissions to the government colleges has been increased to 1.5 million,” he stated.

Corps Commanders moot hails counter-terrorism, rescue operations

KARACHI: Pakistan Army’s top commanders on Monday discussed the security situation of the country with particular focus on border management and internal security, the military’s media wing said.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa presided over the 249th Corps Commanders’ Conference held here at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the forum took a comprehensive review of the security situation with a particular focus on Border and Internal Security.

The top general appreciated successful ongoing counter-terrorism operations and paid tribute to the supreme sacrifices of forces personnel to ensure the security of borders and the safety of the masses.

General Bajwa also hailed the efforts of formations in relief operations to mitigate the challenges of people affected amid heavy rainfalls, and floods in the country. ISPR added that the forum reaffirmed the resolve of the Armed Forces to extend complete support to civil administration in rescue and rehabilitation activities.
