After IIOJK, Chhattisgarh and Assam occupy top position for deaths in police encounters

Guwahati, July 31, 2022 (PPI-OT):Killing of people by Indian troops in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has so deeply impacted the psyche of Indian forces that Chhattisgarh and the North-eastern state of Assam occupy the second and third position in India in the deaths in police encounters.

According to Indian Home Ministry’s record, Assam recorded a total of 18 deaths during 2021-2022 even as IIOJK led the table with 45 deaths followed by Chhattisgarh with 30 deaths. In connection with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Gauhati High Court by a Delhi-based lawyer and activist Arif Jwadder, the Assam government through an affidavit had earlier informed the court that 51 people died and 139 were injured in the encounters between May 2021 and June 2022 in 31 of the state’s 35 districts.

The High Court had directed the Assam government to file the updated investigation report on every police encounter case since May 2021 within six weeks. The court fixed September 29 as the next date of hearing. Civil rights lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan and senior lawyer Indira Jaising during their separate appearance for the petitioner, argued in the High Court that the PIL raised the issue of public importance involving the rule of law in Assam.

Only small percentage of population can approach courts: CJI

New Delhi, July 31, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chief Justice of India (CJI) N V Ramana has termed access to justice “a tool for social emancipation” and said that only a small percentage of the population could approach courts while the majority suffers in silence. N V Ramana addressing the first All India District Legal Services Authorities Meet in New Delhi urged the judiciary “to use modern technological tools to enhance the pace of justice delivery”.

“Justice: Social, Economic and Political are the vision of justice that our Preamble promises to every Indian. The reality is, today, only a small percentage of our population can approach the justice delivery system, when in need,” he said. The CJI said one of the most important aspects which call for active consideration and intervention of the legal services authorities in the country was the condition of under trials.

He said that India, the second most populous country in the world with an average age of 29 years, had a large workforce. “However, skilled workers are estimated to be only three percent of our total workforce. We need to harness the full potential of the youthful demographic profile of our country.

With the western world increasingly falling short of skilled human resources, it is India’s turn to fill the gap, globally,” the CJI said. He termed the district judiciary the backbone of the justice delivery system of India. “They are the first point of contact for much of the population and its strengthening is the need of the hour,” the CJI said.

Indian media raising killing of dog but no word for martyred Kashmiris

Srinagar, July 31, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a two-year old Indian Army dog ‘Axel’ was also killed during a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Wanigam Bala area of Baramulla district, yesterday.

The troops martyred an innocent Kashmiri youth in the operation and thousands others but the Indian media is raising the killing of the dog and has no word for the Muslims of India and Kashmiris, the Indian troops have been killing them since long.

A report released by Kashmir Media Service, today, said that Indian troops have martyred thousands of Kashmiris, most of them were killed by the troops during cordon and search operations and fake encounters in the length and breadth of the territory.

Persecution of Muslims, Christians and low-caste Hindus in India has increased to an alarming proportion in India under fascist Narendra Modi as attacks against members of religious minorities have increased manifold since BJP came to power in 2014.

Violence, intimidation and harassment against minorities have become the order of the day in India and communal Modi is shaping the country’s policy according to Hindutva dictates. But, it said, the Indian media is mourning the killing of a dog and has no sympathy with the people of Kashmir who are being martyred on a daily basis by Indian troops in the occupied territory.
