Pak-Saudi security cooperation to be enhanced further: Sanaullah 

Islamabad, September 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah says security cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will be enhanced further. Talking to a Saudi delegation led by Commander Border Guard Major General Mohammad Bin Abdullah Al-Shehri in Islamabad on Friday, he stressed on improving communication between the Interior Ministries of the two countries.

The Minister said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will jointly fight all internal and regional security challenges. He said Saudi Arabia has always provided generous help and assistance to Pakistan in difficult times. He said timely assistance from Saudi Arabia helped Pakistan for rehabilitation of flood victims. Matters pertaining to illegal immigration, security and training of law enforcement personnel were also discussed in the meeting.

Managing Director Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, Amir Fida Paracha collects donations to support the flood hit persons, during his visit to PBM Relief Camp at Motorway Toll Plaza in Islamabad 

Islamabad, September 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Bait ul-Mal (PBM) Managing Director Amir Fida Paracha on Wednesday urged the people from all walks of life to come forward and cooperate with Pakistan Bait ul Mal (PBM) in its campaign to help rehabilitate the people whose livelihoods were destroyed by the recent floods.

Amir Fida Paracha said this during a visit to the relief camp set up for the flood victims at the Motorway Toll Plaza. The MD also participated in the campaign to collect donations for flood hit people. Motorway Police also fully supported the donations collecting campaign being continued to help the flood affected families. Initially, he said various steps were being taken to provide immediate assistance to the affected families.

In the next phase, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal would ensure the rehabilitation of flood-affected people, which includes economic rehabilitation of women, education of children, provision of wheelchairs for the injured, and different other measures to provide solace to marooned people. The MD also visited PBM’s another relief camp established at Sangjani Toll Plaza and participated in the donation collection campaign.

Senator Atta Ur Rehman, Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Reforms presides over a Meeting of The Committee

Islamabad, September 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Planning Development and Special Initiatives was held on Friday at Parliament House. Chaired by Senator Atta Ur Rehman the meeting was attended by Senator Nuzhat Sadiq, Senator Sadia Abbasi, Senator Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhary, Senator Danesh Kumar, Senator Hidayat Ullah, Senator Sardar Muhammad Shafiq Tareen, and senior officers from the Ministry of Planning Development and Special Initiatives, along with all concerned.

The meeting commenced with update of the financial and physical progress of DI Khan Airport. Other matters taken up include the reasons for delay in the completion of Soan Bridge project on GT Road, Rawalpindi and losses of PSDP Projects during floods.

While being briefed regarding the financial and physical progress of DI Khan Airport the Committee was informed that operations of the airport have remained suspended since 2014.

The runway is currently in the state to cater to ATR flights, however, it was essential that the building be renovated. The Committee stressed the need for the airport to be made operational at the earliest and measure be taken to allow larger international flights.

The Committee was informed that currently the airport can take partial load of Boeing Airbus and 77 Aircrafts as well. However, at the moment, due to massive flooding, no large flights can be accommodated by the airport.

Discussing completion of Soan Bridge project on GT Road, Rawalpindi the Committee was informed that delay was mainly due to the performance of the Contractor as a result of which the contract was terminated. FWO has been taken on board for completion of the project and have been summoned for details in the next meeting.

Taking up the matter of losses of PSDP Projects during floods the Committee was informed that basically the role of MoPD and SI is to process the development schemes for approval of the competent for and the provision of funds through PSDP.

MoPD and SI also conducts monitoring of ongoing PSDP schemes. NDMA provided details of the losses incurred by floods over various regions including AJ and K and Gilgit Baltistan. The Committee while reviewing the data opined that in order for more details in addition to the NDMA, SUPARCO must be invited in the next meeting.

The Committee directed NDMA for more details regarding damages according to districts. The Committee was informed that a reconstruction plan has been chalked out in which provinces would have to contribute as well.

Senator Sadia Abbasi was of the view that since Pakistan is an Agrarian Economy special attention must be paid to the Agricultural losses incurred as this could lead to food insecurity in the country. Senator Shafiq Tareen raised the issue regarding the mismanagement in distribution of relief packages by PDMA and Deputy Commissioners in Balochistan.

He stressed that the process need to be transparent and unbiased. He also inquired the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) criteria for cash transfers to flood victims. He raised concerns regarding all victims that are currently unregistered stressing the need for BISP to accommodate all.

‘Deeply indebted’: PM thanks Emir of Qatar for humanitarian assistance for flood victims 

Islamabad, September 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said he is deeply indebted to Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for humanitarian assistance for flood victims, which includes a field hospital with 93-member staff. In a tweet today, he said this hospital will be deployed in Sindh. He said we gratefully acknowledge this gesture of the Emir of Qatar.

Two more UAE flights with relief goods land in Rawalpindi 

Islamabad, September 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):In continuation of humanitarian air bridge established between Pakistan and United Arab Emirates, two more flights from UAE carrying food items, medical supplies and tents reached at Nur Khan Air Base in Rawalpindi on Friday. So far, eleven flights from the UAE with relief goods have been received. In a statement, the Foreign Office has thanked the UAE for its assistance at this time of grave crisis.

All-out efforts being made to mitigate sufferings of flood affectees: Musadik 

Islamabad, September 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):Minister of State for Petroleum Dr Musadik Malik says federal and provincial governments are utilizing all their resources to reduce the suffering of people to whom the devastating floods rendered homeless. Talking to media in Islamabad on Friday, he said flood-affected people are in dire need of remedial measures as their lives and integrity is in danger. Dr Musadik said previous government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ruined country’s economy. He said PTI Chief Imran Khan attempted to derail the IMF programme for Pakistan.
