Work of restoring highways, roads in flood-affected areas underway on emergency basis 

Islamabad, September 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):On the special direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the work of restoring highways and connecting roads in flood-affected areas is underway on an emergency basis. According to Prime Minister Office, the prime minister himself is monitoring maintenance process and a daily report is also being submitted to him. During the last fifteen days, flood-affected highways have been restored in all four provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan.

National Highway N-15 has been reopened for traffic from Mansehra to Chilas via Naran. Similarly, Karachi to Chaman national highway N-25 which was affected by flood from Hub to Khuzdar has also been opened. Karakoram Highway N-35 has also been made fully operational.

Masood appeals Pakistani American community to donate generously for flood victims 

Islamabad, September 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Masood Khan has appealed the Pakistani American community to donate generously for the flood victims in Pakistan. Addressing a large gathering organized by Pakistani American community in connection with Pakistan Day, he said the floods have caused unprecedented destruction in the country. The Ambassador said many people have died in the floods. People have also lost their houses and cattle and millions of families are waiting for food, basic facilities and medicine.

He urged the community to come forward and generously help flood victims as they did in past at the time of 2005 earthquake and flood in 2010. Earlier, the Ambassador met editorial board of Chicago Tribune and briefed them about the devastation of flood in Pakistan.

Later, the Chicago Tribune also published an editorial highlighting the magnitude of natural calamity in Pakistan and the need for providing immediate help to recover from this disaster. It said Pakistan is one of the world’s most vulnerable nations to the devastating impact of climate change, despite the fact that it emits less than one percent of the planet’s greenhouse gases.

Government to provide every possible relief in electricity bills: Hashim

Islamabad, September 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):Minister of State for Energy Muhammad Hashim Notezai says the government despite its economic difficulties has been working to provide every possible relief to people in electricity bills. In an exclusive interview with Radio Pakistan, he said the Prime Minister has exempted households consuming electricity up to 300 units in addition to earlier announced 200 units. After this step, 75 percent of the consumers have been exempted from fuel charges adjustment.

The Minister of State said he will suggest the Prime Minister to waive-off electricity bills of the people in flood-hit areas for one year or at least for a few months to provide them maximum relief. Any decision in this regard will be taken by the government after due deliberations and consultations.

Muhammad Hashim Notezai said the Prime Minister has emphasized to exploit the solar potential of the country to the maximum to produce cheaper electricity. A recent meeting chaired by the Prime Minister has given go-ahead for execution of 10,000 megawatts solar energy project to reduce the import bill of costly diesel and furnace oil.

He said the Prime Minister has stressed upon the authorities that electricity should be generated through solar instead of imported fuel, which would help save billions of dollars.

Replying to a question, the Minister of State for Energy said there is no restriction to start producing solar energy at individual level and extra energy could be sold to national grid.

Mir Hashim Notezai said the government will fulfil its responsibility by providing all out help to flood affected people across the country, including Balochistan.

He said NDMA and PDMA Balochistan collectively arranged 30,000 tents for flood hit populace of the province. In addition, he said, we provided food supplies to around 45,000 people. He said more than 50,000 tents and over 80,000 food rations will also be distributed among people in the province in the coming weeks.

Mir Hashim Notezai said we have raised the appeal for help at all international forums and to our friends internationally. He said work is underway to repair and rehabilitate damaged power infrastructure in Sindh and Balochistan. He said 27 grids in Balochistan have been impacted and, engineers and technicians have been working round the clock to restore these.

The Minister of State urged the people to keep vigilant and avoid touching electrical appliances in deluged areas. He advised people not to construct their houses and buildings near rivers and streams. He also called for setting up dams, big and small, for water conservation as well as avoiding the risk of floods.

Prime Minister Shehbaz leaves for Balochistan to visit flood, rain hit areas 

Islamabad, September 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is visiting Kachhi district of Balochistan today to review the restoration work of flood-affected road and railway infrastructure. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif will have aerial view of a collapsed railway bridge in the area. On the occasion, a detailed briefing will also be given to the Prime Minister.

District Administration orders to evacuate area after Manchar Lake rises to dangerous level

Islamabad, September 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):The District Administration Jamshoro has issued an order to evacuate the area following the wave wash and increasing water level in Manchar Lake. According to official directive issued by Deputy Commissioner, the embankments of Manchar Lake are likely to break at any time, so people are requested to evacuate the area and should go on safe places. He further said that there is pressure on the dam of Manchar Lake from RD 54 to RD 58 and the water level in the lake started to rise.

Responding to Imran Khan’s statement, she said he PTI Chief does not want to bring a system of justice, but he desires to introduce a system of revenge. The Minister said conspiracy of Imran Khan has failed and Pakistan is moving towards stability.

Ahsan urges international community to support flood hit people 

Islamabad, September 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):Minister for Planning, Development and Reform, Ahsan Iqbal has urged international community to come forward to help Pakistan in overcoming the situation caused by devastating floods in the country. Addressing an online press conference, he appealed to the international community that Pakistan is facing massive climatic, human disaster, which is the outcome of environmental degradation by global warming. The Minister said that about thirty three million people have been affected by flood disaster asking international community to come forward to help Pakistan for their rehabilitation.
