Electricity in Multan, Faisalabad fully restored: Dastagir

  ISLAMABAD: Minister for Power Khurram Dastagir Khan has said electricity in Multan and Faisalabad has been fully restored. Addressing a news conference here in Islamabad on Thursday, he said work is also underway to restore it in other affected areas. Khurram Dastagir further said electricity transmission in Sukkur and Quetta has partially been restored. He made it clear that electricity in the rest of the areas will be restored by this evening. The Minister for Energy said that inquiry team will determine the cause of the breakdown within four days. He said with extensive efforts of our teams, the Northern side of the country remained uninterrupted by the shutdown.

Pakistan, Tajikistan agree to strengthen economic ties in trade, energy, connectivity

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Tajikistan have agreed to strengthen economic cooperation in trade, energy and connectivity. The understanding was reached during meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in Astana on Thursday, on the sidelines of 6th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA). Swati handed over to FIA on two-day physical remand for tweeting against army chief

ISLAMABAD: A District and Sessions Court in Islamabad on Thursday granted two-day physical remand of PTI Senator Azam Khan Swati to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and directed that the accused be taken for a medical checkup before and after the remand period. The court directed the authorities to produce Swati before it on October 15. The FIA while producing Azam Swati before the court sought his eight-day physical remand. The court, however, granted a two-day physical remand of Swati. Advocate Babar Awan appeared before the court of Senior Civil Judge Shabbir Bhatti on behalf of Swati and argued that Mr Swati was arrested on political grounds. Participation of women imperative for country’s development: Ahsan

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has said participation of women is imperative for the development of a country. Addressing a ceremony here in Islamabad on Thursday, he said a gender unit has been established to include gender perspective in all developmental projects. He said the purpose of this unit is to ensure protection of women rights in development projects. The Minister said women and children are often victims of calamities as they are always more vulnerable. Highlighting the impacts of climate change, he said Pakistan received unprecedented rains this year which resulted in flood. He said Pakistan has called for climate justice as it is the most affected country due to climate change despite having lowest carbon emissions.

Pakistan-Bhutan discuss ways to advance bilateral cooperation in various areas
