Planning Minister says PM will appoint new COAS on merit

ISLAMABAD:Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will appoint a new Army Chief on merit. Talking to a private television channel, he said the Army Chief's appointment will be made on a professional basis and following the procedure as prescribed in the Constitution.   Ahsan Iqbal said PTI Chairman Imran Khan is doing politics on selection of new army chief and trying to make the process controversial. He said in the history of Pakistan, there is not a single example of any politician who tried to drag security institutions into politics. The Minister said the government is focusing on relief and rehabilitation work in flood affected areas but Imran Khan is playing politics on non-issues.

Ex-husband awarded death sentence in Wajiha murder case

RAWALPINDI:A local court on Saturday awarded death sentence to primary accused Rizwan Habib in the murder case of Pakistani-American Wajiha Swati. The additional district and session’s court announced the verdict with four senior officials of the United States (US) Embassy and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) team present in the court.   The verdict maintained that an American woman was called to Pakistan and killed on the pretext of settling a property dispute worth billions of rupees. The main culprit, Swati’s former husband, was sentenced to ten years in prison on charges of kidnapping sentenced to death on charges of murder and has a fine of Rs500, 000. Acting DC Loralai killed in road accident

QUETTA: Acting Deputy Commissioner, Loralai, Jamil Baloch died in a road accident near Benazir flyover area of Quetta on Saturday. According to detail, Jamil Baloch, Assistant Commissioner, Loralai, who had been serving as Acting Deputy Commissioner, Loralai, died in a road accident near Benazir flyover area of the provincial capital. Police reached the site of the accident and shifted the body to Sandeman Provincial Hospital, Quetta. The body was handed to the heirs after fulfilling necessary medico-legal formalities. According to police, over speeding vehicle of the deceased was collided with pillar of Benazir flyover.

Call to conduct inquiry into allegations against tribal chief Malezai

QUETTA: Tribal elders of Chaman has demanded of the authorities to conduct inquiry against those who were levelling baseless allegations against tribal chief Haji Laloo Khan Malezai. Chandka Hospital paralysed as medics protest

LARKANA: On the call of Grand Health Alliance, paramedical staff, staff nurses, and doctors working under the administrative control of Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and lady health workers working under District Health Officer took out a protest rally against the baton charge, torture, usage of water cannon and arrests of the employees of the health department in Karachi who were protesting for the restoration of risk allowance and acceptance of other demands due to which CMCH remained paralused. Man gunned down at Quetta’s Chandni Chowk area

QUETTA: A man was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Chandni Chowk area of the provincial capital on Saturday. According to police, one man namely Abdul Basit, resident of Dera Murad Jamali, was gunned down at Chandni Chowk area of Quetta by unidentified armed men. The assailants managed to escape after committing the crime. The body was shifted to Sandeman Provincial Hospital, Quetta and later handed over to the heirs after fulfilling necessary medico-legal formalities. The incident has created a mourning atmosphere at the victim’s house. Further investigation into the matter was being conducted by the authorities of Satellite Town Police Station, Quetta.
