Govt to complete terms of IMF programme: PM

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said he had expressed his government’s resolve to complete the terms of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) programme, in a telephonic conversation with the IMF’s Managing Director Ms Kristalina Georgieva on Friday. “In a phone call with Managing Director [Kristalina Georgieva] of the IMF yesterday, I told her about the government’s resolve to complete the terms of IMF’s program,” Prime Minister Shehbaz said on Twitter on Saturday. He said, “I also explained Pakistan’s economic difficulties especially after the devastating floods. IMF delegation will come to Pakistan soon.”

Rawalpindi cops arrest two more robbers

RAWALPINDI: The police on Saturday claimed to have arrested two more members of a gang involved in looting people and recovered arms and ammunition from their custody. According to the police spokesperson, Race Course Police arrested two more accused namely Ghulam Abbas and Imran who were involved in looting citizens coming from abroad. Four members of this gang has been apprehended so far while one was killed in the crossfire. He said that the accused had confessed their crime while further investigation was underway. Meanwhile, SP Pothohar while appreciating the SHO Race Course said that those who deprived the citizens of their valuable assets would not escape from the grip of the law.

PTI withdraws contempt petition against CEC

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has withdrawn its contempt of court petition against the chief election commissioner, reported 24NeswsHD TV Channel. The Islamabad High Court heard the case on Saturday. The registrar raised an objection to the contempt petition against the head of a constitutional institution. After his objection, the PTI withdrew its contempt of court petition against the election commissioner of Pakistan. The Islamabad High Court in its Dec 30 order asked the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold local government elections in the federal capital on Dec 31 but the ECP refused to conduct the polls.

ECP launches delimitation of Punjab union councils

ISLAMABAD: In a major development, the Election Commission of Pakistan has started demarcation of union councils in Punjab for holding local government elections in the province, according to a report on Saturday. In Lahore, 402 union councils have been made. The election commission has issued the preliminary lists of the UCs demarcations and put them up in the offices of district election commissioners. The objections over the demarcations could be submitted to the ECP between Jan 9-23. The ECP has established authorities to give their decisions on the objections. The regional election commissioners of all the divisions have been appointed as delimitation authority.
