PEMRA to grant FM Radio Licenses in fata / merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad, January 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):Today, on 27 January 2023, a meeting to review annual performance of senior officers of PEMRA was held at the Authority’s Headquarters in Islamabad. The meeting was presided over by Chairman PEMRA Muhammad Saleem Baig. Senior Director Generals, Director Generals and senior officers of all regional offices of PEMRA attended the meeting. In the meeting, the Authority’s performance related to the administrative and financial issues were reviewed.

Recovery constraints being faced by the Authority due to recent floods in Sindh and Balochistan were analysed. During meeting it was decided to grant FM radio licenses in FATA and merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Moreover, policy for cable licensing in underserved area and IPTV policy was finalized. Apart from this, various issues were taken into consideration while evaluating the performance related to the collection of revenue and a committee for revision of the tariff of cable TV was also taken into consideration.

Chairman PEMRA while addressing the officers took a briefing on day-to-day affairs, recovery and emphasized on implementation of PEMRA laws in light and spirit. Indian transmission should be strictly prohibited as the content viewed on them is harmful to our religious and social values and for the economy of Pakistan.

Special instructions were issued to all Regional Directors for following zero tolerance policy on distribution of Indian/illegal channels. He urged all the officers to show exemplary performance for improving the image and prestige of the institution. He asked the PEMRA officers to ensure the implementation of PEMRA laws and emphasized to ensure strong communication and consultation with all stakeholders for development of media industry in Pakistan.

Timely completion by SNGPL: Minister of State for Energy (Petroleum Division) Senator Dr. Musadik Malik inaugurates Gas Transmission Project at Hafizabad 

Islamabad, January 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):Minister of Energy (Petroleum Division) Senator Dr Musadik Malik inaugurated gas transmission project in district Hafizabad. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Interior and Legal Affairs Attaullah Tarar, former Member of National Assembly Saira Afzal Tarar, Shahid Hussain Bhatti and MD SNGPL Ali J. Hamdani were also present on the occasion.

The project which is expected to benefit 57,000 consumers of 150 villages has been completed at a cost of Rs. 2,142 million. Sui Northern Gas spent Rs. 1,609 million while funding of Rs. 533 million was provided by the Government of Pakistan. The inaugurated gas transmission project includes 25.3 kilometres 8” dia long transmission line, distribution network of 582 kilometres and a Sales Metering Station (SMS) at Pindi Bhattian.

The distribution network has already been commissioned by connecting with the existing supply mains. This project while ensuring supply to the new consumers, will also help in addressing low pressure issues of existing consumers of Pindi Bhattian, Kot Sarwar, Kaley ke Mandi, Jalalpur Bhattian and surrounding villages.

Murtaza Abbasi seeks Korean investment into Special Economic Zones of Pakistan 

Islamabad, January 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Javed Abbasi has offered Korea to utilize ports of Karachi and Gwadar to access Central Asian countries. He was talking to Korean Ambassador to Pakistan Suh Sangpyo who called on him in Islamabad on Friday. The Minister sought Korean investment into Special Economic Zones of Pakistan, saying Pakistan needs transfer of technology.

He praised the standard of Korean products, especially solar panels, and emphasized to increase cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries. Murtaza Javed Abbasi and the Korean ambassador also discussed the ongoing projects of Korean companies in Pakistan and agreed to further expand and encourage these.

During the meeting, they emphasized the need to further promote cooperation between the two countries at the level of parliamentary and governmental levels. Highlighting the great potential of tourism in Pakistan, the Minister said this sector would be further developed. They also discussed to increase Pak, Korea cooperation in the field of health.

Voting for bye-elections in 33 constituencies of NA on March 16

Islamabad, January 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):Voting for bye-elections in 33 constituencies of the National Assembly will be held on 16th of March. According to the schedule issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan today, nomination papers will be filed from 6th to 8th of the next month.

The constituencies, where bye-elections will be held include: NA-04 Swat, NA-17 Haripur, NA-18 Swabi, NA-25 and NA-26 Nowshera, NA-32 Kohat, NA-38 Dera Ismail Khan, NA-43 Khyber, NA-52, 53, and NA-54 Islamabad, NA-57, 59, 60, 62 and NA-63 Rawalpindi, NA-67 Jhelum, NA-97 Bhakkar, NA-126 and NA-130 Lahore, NA-155 and NA-156 Multan, NA-191 Dera Ghazi Khan, NA-241, 242. 243, 244, 247, 250, 252, 254, and NA-256 Karachi and NA-265 Quetta.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar holds a meeting with Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani 

Islamabad, January 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a meeting with Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, Acting Governor Baluchistan Mir Jan Mohammad Jamali and Baluchistan Provincial Minister Mr. Zamrak Khan Achakzai in Islamabad, today. SAPM on Finance Mr. Tariq Bajwa and Secretary Finance also attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed current economic situation in the country and financial issues and execution of development projects especially in flood affected areas of Baluchistan. The Finance Minister committed to extend full support of the federal government for the development and progress of Baluchistan province.

Shehbaz Sharif directs to reduce load-shedding in Chitral 

Islamabad, January 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed to take immediate measures to reduce load-shedding in Chitral. Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Friday regarding resolution of problems pertaining to power and infrastructure in Chitral, he said the people of this area cannot be kept under darkness anymore. He said any delay in resolution of Chitral’s power problems will not be tolerated.

The Prime Minister has also sought a detailed report in this regard from the Minister and the Secretary Power Division. Shehbaz Sharif instructed to immediately replace the obsolete transmission system of electricity in Chitral with a modern one. He directed the Power Division to immediately evolve a strategy in consultation with Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization.

The Prime Minister said provision of jobs to local people on priority basis should be ensured in development projects and government organizations in Chitral. He said infrastructure problems of the area should be resolved at the earliest. The Prime Minister also sought a report on the assistance provided to the flood victims. He said development of backward areas and providing equal development opportunities to the people of such regions is top priority of the government.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister was informed about load-shedding and infrastructure problems in Chitral. The participants of the meeting also thanked Shehbaz Sharif for his personal interest in helping and rehabilitating the victims of Chitral during the flood. The Prime Minister issued instructions to the concerned authorities to take immediate steps for resolution of all the problems of Chitral.

Pakistan rejects media reports regarding Indian proposal concerning Indus Waters Treaty

Islamabad, January 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):Foreign Office spokesperson has rejected media reports regarding Indian proposal concerning the Indus Waters Treaty. In a statement, the Spokesperson said a Court of Arbitration is holding its first hearing in The Hague on Pakistan’s objections to Kishanganga and Ratle Hydroelectric Projects.

The spokesperson said the Court of Arbitration has been set up under the relevant provisions of the Indus Waters Treaty and such media reports should not divert attention from the important proceedings of this Court.
