The Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association has announced that the 42nd International Exhibition of Hand-knotted Carpets will be held in Lahore this year, although its date will be announced later this week.
This was stated by PCMEA Chairman Mian Atiq-ur-Rehman, Vice Chairman Riaz Ahmed, and other senior stakeholders after a meeting today, in which challenges facing the sector were discussed.
The association leaders described the upcoming event as a vital platform for the revival of Pakistan’s traditional craftsmanship. They emphasized that the exhibition is expected to attract international buyers, leading to significant export deals and a substantial increase in the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
However, they said that the success of such a large-scale international gathering depends on government patronage. They specifically urged TDAP to expedite the funding process so that organizers can begin preparations without delay.
They added that the requested funds are essential for creating attractive hospitality packages to entice buyers from around the world.
Citing ongoing difficulties in the sector, industry representatives stressed that state patronage has become indispensable for the survival of one of Pakistan’s oldest export industries.
Despite financial constraints, the association expressed confidence that this exhibition, like its predecessors, will succeed in securing substantial export deals for the country.
