5 Pulwama youth remanded to NIA custody

Jammu, February 17, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, police have arrested one more Special Police Officer (SPO) in connection with the gruesome rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl, Aasifa Bano, of Kathua district of Jammu region. An official told mediamen that the police arrested Surinder Kumar of Satoora, Kathua, to probe his role in the gruesome crime.

Additional Director General of Police, Crime Branch, Alok Puri said, “So far we have arrested two SPOs and a boy.” Meanwhile, father of Aasifa Bano has sought a High Court-monitored probe into the incident, saying that the investigating agencies have miserably failed in initiating a prompt investigation.

In his plea filed through advocate Deepika Singh Rajawat, Muhammad Akhtarr, the father of Aasifa, has submitted before the High Court that fair and impartial investigation is only possible if the High Court monitors the ongoing investigation in the case. “Only a fair and impartial investigation can unearth the foul chain of events and this is possible only if this court monitors the ongoing investigation,” reads the petition.

The family of the victim girl has raised questions over investigation being conducted into the case. “The investigation agencies have miserably failed in making more arrests in the case. The way the deceased was abducted, killed and gang-raped does not seem to be an act of one person only. The crime has been committed by more than one person and it appears that the police are trying to shield the real culprits,” the petition reads. The family has also raised doubts over the age of one of the culprits whom police have declared a minor.
