8 out of 10 dialysis machines dysfunctional at Chandka Hospital

LARKANA:Eight out of ten dialysis machines were dysfunctional at the Dialysis Center installed at the Nephrology Department of the Chandka Medical College Hospital here on Saturday due to which kidney-failure poor aged patients suffered a lot for no fault of theirs at all and their lives remained at stake, it was learnt here on Saturday.

In this connection patients belonging to Balochistan’s Maula Bux, Bakrani’s Fazal Muhammad, Pir Goth’s Muhammad Yousuf, Radhan’s Nasim Sargani and others complained that they are admitted at the Nephology Ward of the CMCH since several days to get dialysis but the administration is not ready to provide them dialysis on the pretext of non-function of eight dialysis machines out of 10 installed at the ward due to which their lives are in danger.

It must also be mentioned here that MRI and CT scan machines are also non-operative for months being outdated and the affected patients are forced to get these costly diagnostic tests from private medical centers costing them extra. Outdated diagnostic machines / equipment has not yet been replaced as the hospital has been constantly ignored despite the fact that the vision of Benazir Bhutto was to give top priority to health and education sectors.

Dr. Gulzar Tunio, CMCH Medical Superintendent confirmed the news and said that dialysers used for dialysis were unavailable in the morning but the same were made available and the machines started working and patients got the dialysis. In reply to another question, he said a new tender will be floated for new procurement of MRI / CT scan machines which will be installed when received, adding the new CT scan already received has been reserved for the new Emergency Center.
