Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer, has issued a directive to fertilizer companies to immediately reverse a recent increase in urea prices. This action was taken during an emergency meeting with representatives from major fertilizer companies like Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited, Engro Fertilizer Private Limited, and Fatima Fertilizer Company. According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests and ensuring a steady supply of urea for the upcoming Kharif season. He highlighted the government’s decision to import 200,000 metric tons of urea and mentioned that an additional 500,000 metric tons could be imported if required to meet domestic demands. Minister Hussain also instructed the companies to consult all stakeholders before any future price adjustments and outlined that price increases without corresponding rises in production costs are unacceptable.
