Chinese Consul General Engages with Pakistani Leaders to Boost Economic Ties


Lahore, Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren met with former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Provincial Minister of Industry and Commerce Chaudhry Shafi Hussain at the former Prime Minister’s residence, where discussions focused on strengthening economic cooperation and investment opportunities in Punjab. The meetings underscored a mutual commitment to deepening the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.



According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the Chinese Consul General inquired about the health of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and expressed his wishes for a full recovery. Zhao lauded the former Prime Minister as a pivotal figure in Pakistan’s political landscape and expressed gratitude to both the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Punjab for providing robust security measures for Chinese nationals.



During the discussions, the Chinese Consul General highlighted the conducive investment climate in Punjab, noting it as an opportune time for Chinese investors. He indicated plans to attract more Chinese companies, particularly in sectors like solar technology and modern agriculture, to invest in the region.



Chaudhry Shafi Hussain outlined ongoing engagements with over 15 Chinese companies interested in manufacturing solar panels in Punjab. He shared that a high-level delegation from Punjab is scheduled to visit China next month to further discussions on investments and explore potential partnerships in solar and garment sectors at an investment conference in Beijing.



The visit aims to enhance bilateral economic cooperation and explore new avenues for collaboration, particularly in the promotion of modern agricultural practices, a priority for both regions.



Former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain emphasized the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China, advocating for more effective measures to elevate economic ties. The Chinese Consul General extended an invitation to Hussain to visit the Chinese Consulate, highlighting the ongoing diplomatic engagements that reinforce the strong bilateral relations.



This meeting sets the stage for the upcoming delegation’s visit, which could potentially usher in a new phase of economic collaboration between Punjab and Chinese enterprises.
