NAB distributes Rs97million among 132 affectees of Jeddah Town scam

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday distributed cheques of Rs97 million among 132 affectees of the ‘Jeddah Town Housing Scheme’ scandal.

In this regard, a special ceremony was held here at the NAB headquarters in Islamabad to distribute the funds to the affectees of the Jeddah Town scandal.

The chief guest at the ceremony was Deputy Chairman NAB, Sohail Nasir, along with Prosecutor General NAB, Ihtesham Qader Shah, Director General NAB Rawalpindi, Mirza Irfan Beg, Director NAB Rawalpindi, Ilyas Qamar, and other officials.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Chairman NAB, Sohail Nasir, said that in accordance with the vision of the Chairman NAB, NAB officers are working round the clock to recover the assets looted from the public. He said in the past two years, a record amount has been recovered and returned to the victims.

Sohail Nasir said NAB is performing this national duty with a sense of service and honesty and is making every possible effort to recover every penny of the affectees and return it to them.

He appreciated the efforts of Director General NAB Rawalpindi, and his team for recovering the looted funds of the victims of the Jeddah Town housing project.

Sohail Nasir said NAB’s public awareness campaign is being carried out vigorously and also the public is being warned to exercise utmost caution before investing any amount in housing projects and not to be deceived by anyone.

He said a large number of accused have been arrested in the last two years and legislation is also being made in this regard so that those who fraud citizens must not escape from punishment.

Earlier, Director General NAB Rawalpindi, said that the recovery of the looted funds of the Jeddah Town victims was a difficult task but despite the passage of a long time, all legal requirements were fulfilled and the victims were assured of the return of their funds, and similarly, the affectees of other schemes in Rawalpindi are also being assisted.

He said billions of rupees have been recovered so far and distributed among the victims and an awareness campaign is also underway to warn people against fraudsters.

After receiving the cheques, the affectees of Jeddah Town thanked the NAB administration and said that NAB had performed better than expected and that due to NAB, they have got recovered their looted capital.
