Pakistan has stressed the urgent need to foster dialogue and diplomacy at the United Nations, advocating for an end to unilateral actions and a focus on cooperation in an increasingly divided global landscape.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, emphasized these points while delivering a statement at the UN Security Council’s Arria Formula meeting, convened by China.
Ambassador Ahmad highlighted the current global challenges, including wars, inequality, economic instability, and climate issues, which pose threats to peace and security. He underscored the necessity to renew faith in multilateralism and collective action.
The Ambassador reminded that the United Nations was established to serve the interests of all nations, emphasizing cooperation and the common good of humanity, rather than catering to the powerful.
Presenting Pakistan’s proposals to fortify multilateralism, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar urged a recommitment to international law and the UN Charter principles, describing them as foundational to a just world order.
He also called for reforms in the international trading system to better reflect the aspirations and needs of developing countries.
