Pakistan Peoples Party parliamentarian Shazia Atta Marri intensified her critique of the Modi government’s recent actions regarding the Pahalgam incident, warning that Pakistan is prepared to respond decisively to any aggression. She emphasized that the provocative measures taken by India will not go unanswered.
During a press conference at the Bilawal House Media Cell, Marri supported Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s stern remarks, which she described as reflecting the sentiments of the Pakistani populace. Bhutto Zardari had previously declared the River Indus as a rightful possession of Pakistan, cautioning against any attempts to alter its flow.
Marri accused Narendra Modi of diverting attention from his government’s shortcomings by exploiting the Pahalgam incident and criticized his quick, unfounded claims against Pakistan. She denounced Modi’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, labeling it a harsh and reprehensible act, and cautioned that such reckless behavior would not go without repercussions. She advised Modi to reconsider his military deployments in Occupied Kashmir instead of making baseless allegations against Pakistan.
Highlighting Pakistan’s own struggles with terrorism, Marri reminded that the country has endured significant losses, with over 90,000 lives lost in the battle against terror. She also rebuked the Indian media for serving as a propaganda tool rather than adhering to responsible journalism in their coverage of the Pahalgam event.
In her address, Marri pointed to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s remarks at a Sukkur rally, questioning Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his controversial canal project discussions. She insisted that decisions on such matters should be reached through consensus in the Council of Common Interests (CCI), as mandated by the Constitution.
Marri criticized the current government’s failure to convene CCI meetings every 90 days, as required, and reaffirmed the PPP’s dedication to constitutional principles and its opposition to contentious canal projects. Concluding her address, Marri expressed respect for those protesting the canal issue, affirming that all concerns deserve attention and regard.
