Pakistan is set to launch its first nationwide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign, targeting approximately 13 million young women aged 9 to 14. The program, commencing on September 15 and concluding on September 27, aims to drastically reduce the prevalence of cervical cancer, the second most frequent malignancy among Pakistani women.
The inoculation initiative will span across Punjab, Sindh, Islamabad, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. A single dose of the vaccine will provide enduring protection against the virus. Public health specialists hailed the undertaking as a significant advancement in the nation’s battle against preventable cancers.
The DOPASI Foundation, collaborating with FDI and Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, is providing governmental support through public education and outreach programs designed to address misinformation and alleviate concerns surrounding the vaccine’s safety and efficacy.
Government representatives revealed that the HPV vaccine will be incorporated into Pakistan’s regular immunization schedule, with an ambitious objective of vaccinating 18 million girls within the next three years.
This measure places Pakistan among 149 nations globally that have implemented HPV vaccination programs.
