Only 16% of Pakistanis Know About Govt’s Apna Meter, Apni Reading Initiative: Survey

A survey by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan has revealed a significant gap in the awareness of the government’s “Apna Meter, Apni Reading” mobile application, with only 16% of the population acquainted with the initiative. This low level of familiarity is particularly pronounced in rural locales, where a mere 11% of inhabitants are informed about the app, as opposed to 24% in urban districts.

The poll, which encompassed a nationally representative sample of adult men and women, aimed to gauge public knowledge of the app designed to combat overbilling and erroneous meter readings. When queried about their awareness, 82% of respondents admitted to being unaware of the application, while 2% either did not know or refrained from answering.

The findings indicate that the government”s efforts to disseminate information about the “Apna Meter, Apni Reading” initiative have not sufficiently permeated large segments of the populace, especially in non-urban areas, thereby curtailing its potential efficacy. The study, executed by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, involved a sample size of 1060 individuals from both urban and rural settings across all four provinces. Conducted via telephonic surveys from August 02 to August 21, 2025, the survey”s margin of error stands at approximately ± 2-3 percent at a 95% confidence interval.

These insights underscore the necessity for enhanced communication strategies to ensure broader awareness and utilization of the app, crucial for addressing issues of billing accuracy and efficiency nationwide.
