Representatives from the British Council met with International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) officials to explore joint efforts under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) and its Green Youth Movement (GYM).
The university informed that IIUI Vice President (Research and Enterprise) Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed welcomed the delegation, led by Mr. Iftikhar Ahmed, Head of Non-Formal Education, and Mr. Aun Naqvi, NFE Manager. Dr. Syed emphasized the institution’s focus on areas like sustainability and skill development, aligning with the aims of the Higher Education Commission, British Council, and PMYP.
The meeting centered on establishing cooperative frameworks for youth training. The British Council representatives detailed a 16-hour course and a university cascade training model supported by the Higher Education Commission, aiming to boost youth capacity-building in Pakistan”s higher education.
Dr Sarah Amir, from IIUI’s Department of Environmental Science, presented the university’s PMYP and GYM activities, including awareness campaigns and sustainability endeavors. She highlighted the university”s Youth Development Center as a key resource for student support.
Dr Hafiz Ghufran, Director Students Affairs, stressed the importance of water conservation, while Mr. Ahmed discussed the British Council”s non-formal education focus areas. Prof. Dr. Amna Mahmood and Dr. Asma advocated for increased female student engagement and emphasized promoting youth projects through media.
IIUI’s GYM Club has facilitated various student initiatives, from research competitions to international partnerships. Dr. Amir mentioned Qatar-backed projects facilitated by the British Council, reaffirming the institution”s dedication to education and sustainability in youth development. Dr. Syed concluded by reiterating IIUI”s commitment to broaden its collaboration with the British Council, HEC, and PMYP for student training, faculty growth, and global alliances.
