Humanitarian Aid – Staggering Cost of Survival: Basic Meal in Gaza Exceeds £4 Amid Perilous Aid Efforts

The cost of a single basic meal in Gaza has soared to over £4, highlighting the extreme and expensive challenges humanitarian organizations face in the region, Muntada Aid said today.

This figure stands in stark contrast to other global crises, where a nutritious meal for a Sudanese refugee in Chad costs less than £0.50, according to aid group Muntada Aid.

The organization reports that procuring food and essential raw materials is not only exorbitant but also exceptionally cumbersome and dangerous. Despite these obstacles, Muntada Aid has initiated an emergency bread distribution program, currently supplying 1,500 residents with freshly made bread as part of its seventh day of the August initiative.

In addition to the bread program, the charity is also supplying clean drinking water to more than 4,100 individuals and serving 500 hot meals on a daily basis. These efforts are part of a wider campaign of assistance in the embattled territory.

Since October 2023, Muntada Aid has successfully provided food, water, and medical support to over 172,000 people. The high price of provisions and the logistical difficulties underscore the severe and ongoing need for humanitarian support within Gaza.
