Pakistan, Romania Agree to Strengthen Aerial Defence Partnership

Pakistan and Romania today agreed to establish robust institutional mechanisms to address shared aerial defence challenges, a move underscored by the Romanian Air Chief’s praise for the Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) professionalism, particularly its success during a past conflict with India.

The understanding was reached during a high-level meeting in Romania between the Chief of the Air Staff, PAF, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, and the Chief of the Romanian Air Force Staff, Lieutenant General Leonard-Gabriel Baraboi.

Discussions during the official visit centered on advancing operational collaboration between the two air forces. The chiefs identified joint air exercises, comprehensive exchange programs, and specialized training for both air and ground crews as key areas for development.

The dignitaries also exchanged views on pressing regional security dynamics, reaffirming the importance of strong bilateral cooperation in maintaining global and regional stability in a rapidly changing security environment.

Expanding beyond current operational ties, the talks delved into future prospects, including forging significant defence-industrial partnerships focused on advanced aerospace technologies and expanding the scope of Air Force-to-Air Force collaboration.

Lieutenant General Baraboi commended the professionalism manifested by the Pakistan Air Force and acknowledged the substantial progress the force has achieved through strategic initiatives implemented under the leadership of Air Chief Marshal Sidhu.

The visit by the Pakistani Air Chief marks a significant milestone in the military relations between the two nations. It highlights an enduring commitment from both countries to foster peace, development, and enhanced military collaboration.

Upon his arrival at the Romanian Air Force Headquarters, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu was presented with a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the host nation”s air force.
