Pakistan Formulating National Vaccine Policy, Plans Pharma Parks to Support Local Drug Manufacturers

The government is developing a new policy to establish dedicated Pharma Parks for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and is finalizing a National Vaccine Policy to bolster local manufacturing, officials confirmed.

According to a statement issued today, the initiative was announced by Haroon Akhtar Khan, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, following a meeting with a delegation representing pharmaceutical SMEs in Rawalpindi today.

During the meeting, representatives from smaller drug manufacturing firms briefed the special assistant on the various challenges and operational constraints they face. Khan assured the delegates that the administration is fully committed to addressing their concerns, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He stated that the government is dedicated to empowering these enterprises through targeted reforms and supportive frameworks.

The special assistant further noted that officials are actively working in collaboration with the banking sector to improve the SME sector”s access to credit facilities.

Highlighting the prime minister”s goal to promote domestic vaccine production, Khan confirmed that the National Vaccine Policy is currently in the final stages of its development.
