Under the commitment of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s “Smog-Free Punjab,” the Punjab Police has intensified its efforts against air pollution and environmental violations. A statement issued on Thursday revealed that in the last 24 hours, a vigorous crackdown against violators involved in burning crop residue, operating smoke-emitting vehicles, and illegal industrial activities resulted in the registration of 23 cases, numerous arrests, fines exceeding Rs 1.3 million, and countless warnings issued.

This crackdown is part of a broader initiative under which 2,749 cases have been registered this year, 2,422 offenders have been taken into custody, and fines exceeding Rs 225.7 million have been imposed. Provincial authorities have been directed to intensify anti-smog efforts by taking strict action against those who violate environmental laws. This directive from IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar highlights the commitment to significantly reduce environmental violations across the province.
