Woman gives birth to baby girl on floor outside Gynae ward of Civil Hospital Thatta

A pregnant woman was forced to give birth to a baby girl on the floor outside the gynecology department of Civil Hospital Thatta on Sunday, allegedly after being denied admission by the medical staff. The patient, belonging to the Mallah community, was shifted to the ward along with her newborn baby after a strong protest by other people present at the hospital.

Relatives accompanying the newborn narrated their ordeal to journalists, stating that their pleas to the female doctors on duty were ignored. “We had been begging the female doctors for a long time that the woman was in severe labor pain and should be admitted to the ward or labor room, but we were pushed out,” a family member said.

The family further claimed that such mistreatment by doctors and staff in the hospital’s gynae department is a persistent issue, and they cited similar incidents in the past.

They alleged a potential conflict of interest, stating that many of the hospital’s female doctors also run their private clinics. The relatives accused these doctors of deliberately creating difficulties for patients to divert them to private hospitals, where they allegedly perform deliveries via operations for hefty fees.

The affected family has demanded that the authorities take notice of the incident and ensure that justice is served.
