Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, today committed to making public service the foremost priority of local government institutions, vowing to carry forward the democratic mission of the late Benazir Bhutto on her 18th death anniversary.
The pledge was made during a Qur’an recitation ceremony held at the head office of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to honour the former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
Addressing the attendees, Mayor Wahab described Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto as a great leader in Pakistan’s history who made “unparalleled sacrifices for democracy, the Constitution and the rights of the people”. He stated that her political vision and democratic principles continue to serve as a “guiding light for the younger generation even today”.
He further asserted that the KMC would continue its role with full dedication towards enhancing civic facilities and the overall development of the city, in line with Ms Bhutto’s “people-friendly philosophy.”
The Mayor remarked that the nation can never forget the historic struggle waged by the late leader for the stability of democracy, the strength of the federation, and the protection of citizens” rights. He added that such solemn gatherings promote national unity and democratic values.
During the event, special prayers were offered for the soul of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and for the peace, progress, and stability of the country.
The ceremony was attended by numerous officials, including Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh Najmi Alam, and Pakistan Peoples Party Karachi General Secretary Rauf Nagori.
Also present were KMC City Council Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, Jaman Darwan, Khalil Hot, and President of Peoples Labour Bureau Karachi Division Aslam Samoon, alongside many KMC council members, officers, and employees who paid tribute to the late leader.
