According to a statement issued by Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) on Monday, two suspected extortionists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Garden area. The action was taken during a joint intelligence-based operation by the paramilitary force and the SIU police.
A spokesperson for Sindh Rangers said that during the raid, the suspects opened fire on law enforcement personnel, and in the ensuing exchange of fire, both individuals were killed.
The deceased were later identified as Muhammad Hassan alias Belcha and Tanveer Ali alias Teetar.
According to the press release, the deceased were operatives of the criminal gangs of notorious extortion mafia ringleaders Jameel Chhanga and Zahid Ladla.
Authorities stated that the pair was allegedly involved in a campaign of spreading fear by distributing extortion slips to business centers, shopkeepers, builders, under-construction projects, and restaurants in various areas including Soldier Bazar and Jamshed Town.
The suspects allegedly spread terror by opening fire if the extortion demands were not met.
Additionally, the official statement implicated both individuals in more than 300 incidents of street crime. The statement said that both were habitual criminals and had been arrested and jailed multiple times in the past.
The Rangers have appealed to the public to help in crime prevention by providing any information about such elements to the nearest Rangers check post, the Rangers Helpline 1101, or the Rangers Madadgar WhatsApp number 03479001111. The statement assured that the identity of the informant would be kept confidential.
