In response to the recent and sudden surge in traffic accidents in the city, the Inspector General of Police Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, has ordered a transparent and thorough investigation into the incidents and has requested a report.
This directive was issued during a high-level review meeting held at the Central Police Office today, which focused on the city’s overall traffic management and the performance of the digital e-challan system. The IG specified that the investigation should identify the root causes of the accidents and provide effective recommendations for their prevention.
The meeting was attended by the Additional IG Karachi and several Deputy Inspector Generals from various departments including Traffic, Highways Patroling, and IT, where the DIG Traffic Karachi gave a detailed briefing.
The briefing reviewed the performance of the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS), and it was reported that traffic arrangements during the last ten days of Ramadan were deemed “overall satisfactory” by the provincial police chief.
It was revealed that since the system’s implementation on October 27, 2025, approximately 600,000 electronic tickets have been issued. Officials also mentioned that various measures are underway to improve the system and enhance public service delivery.
Looking ahead, the DIG Traffic announced that a crackdown will be initiated after Eid against motorcyclists without number plates and 23,000 vehicles blacklisted under the TRACS system.
At the conclusion of the meeting, IG Odho directed the authorities to submit comprehensive proposals for effective action against heavy vehicle drivers and motorcyclists who violate traffic laws.
