Woman, allegedly tortured by fake exorcist and in-laws in Mirpurkhas, protests with family for justice

A woman, rescued by police on a court order after allegedly being tortured by her in-laws and a self-proclaimed exorcist in Mirpurkhas, has protested, demanding justice and citing the authorities’ failure to register a case or arrest the accused.

Bhagli Bheel, accompanied by her father, Kanyo Bheel, and other relatives, demonstrated in front of the Mirpurkhas Press Club to highlight her case.

Later, during a press conference, the victim detailed her ordeal, which she stated occurred three days prior at Gondal Farm. She alleged that her in-laws-identified as Chetan Bheel, his uncle Samjho Bheel, Krishan Bheel, Bhopa Smeero, and Karan Bheel-violently assaulted her under the pretext of exorcising a “jinn.”

She claimed the accused struck her on the head and beat her back with iron rods, resulting in severe injuries. Following the attack, Bhagli Bheel said she was confined inside the house by her alleged assailants.

The victim’s father, Kanyo Bheel, stated that upon learning of the incident, he was denied access to his daughter, prompting him to approach the court for assistance.

Following the court’s direction, police from the relevant station raided the house, rescued the woman, and transferred her to a hospital for medical treatment.

However, Kanyo Bheel lamented that despite the intervention on the court’s order, the police have so far neither registered a First Information Report (FIR) nor made any arrests.

The family has publicly appealed to the Chief Minister of Sindh, the Interior Minister, and women’s rights organizations to take notice of their plight, ensure a formal case is registered against the accused, and deliver them justice.
