A joyous wedding ceremony in the Liaquat Colony area on Monday turned into despair when the groom’s family allegedly refused the Nikah after their demand for an additional 2 lakh rupees was not met at the last moment.
The bride’s widowed mother, who was already bearing the heavy expenses of the wedding, was unable to provide such a large amount on such short notice. Following this, the groom’s side did not arrive with the wedding procession, leaving the bride and her family in a state of severe distress and humiliation.
After the marriage was called off, the bride’s family approached the Sakhi Pir Police Station for legal action. A formal complaint has been registered against the groom and his relatives, and authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the allegations has been initiated.
The incident has been strongly condemned by the local community and social circles, who have demanded strict measures against the curse of dowry. The demand for action to protect other families from such incidents in the future is gaining momentum.
