Government Pledges Major Shift in National Health Strategy Towards Prevention

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan is undertaking a significant transformation of its healthcare system, shifting its core focus from a purely treatment-based approach to a model that prioritises disease prevention.

In a message released for World Health Day, the premier affirmed the administration’s dedication to establishing a resilient, equitable, and sustainable public health framework, which he stated would be propelled by innovation and collaboration, according to official information today.

Mr Sharif highlighted the broader significance of public health, noting it is not merely an individual concern but a fundamental pillar for economic growth, national stability, and an enhanced quality of life for citizens.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister revealed that the government is actively working to bolster health financing and to broaden financial protection mechanisms for the public, with a specific mention of expanding insurance coverage.
