Punjab’s Second Wheelchair Tennis Venue Established in Faisalabad

Punjab’s second dedicated venue for wheelchair tennis has been established at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. This development marks an expansion of disability sports facilities in the province, following recent talent identification and coaching activities.

The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) today confirmed that a university basketball court has been converted into a multi-purpose court suitable for both tennis and basketball. This transformation was made possible with the consent of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, and the assistance of Mr. Muhammad Shafiq, President of the Pakistan Handball Federation. Necessary equipment, including poles, a net, and court markings, as well as two specially designed wheelchair tennis chairs and four tennis racquets, were also provided.

This initiative follows a wheelchair tennis talent hunt and coaching camp held in Lahore on April 16, 2026. Subsequently, under the ITF-PTF Wheelchair Tennis Development Initiative, a further coaching camp and talent discovery event took place in Faisalabad on April 18, 2026, with fourteen boys and girls from the Faisalabad Region participating.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Mr. Muhammad Khalid Rehmani, Senior Vice President of PTF, who is also a member of the Asian Tennis Federation’s Wheelchair Tennis Committee. He was accompanied by Mr. Salman Karim Mughal, PTF Wheelchair Tennis Coordinator, and both supervised the talent identification process during the Faisalabad camp.

Following the trials, local tennis coach Mr. Zeeshan Ashraf identified four promising wheelchair tennis players. These selected players will receive weekly training sessions to develop fundamental skills in the sport. Wheelchair athlete Mr. Muhammad Mahd Tariq will oversee these training sessions.

Mr. Rehmani congratulated the selected participants during his address. He stated that the new facility would also be accessible for recreational purposes for non-selected players. He also thanked the Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, and its Sports Directorate for their support.

Mr. Salman Karim Mughal also addressed the gathering. Furthermore, Mr. Muhammad Mahd Tariq thanked the Pakistan Tennis Federation and expressed his commitment to introducing more wheelchair sports in Faisalabad in the coming years.
