Pakistan Pledges Comprehensive Agrifood System Modernisation

Pakistan has emphatically reaffirmed its strong commitment to fostering resilient, inclusive, and sustainable agrifood systems, with a clear focus on modernisation to address future challenges.

Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for National Food Security and Research, conveyed this pledge during the 38th Ministerial Session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) held in Brunei Darussalam, according to information on Friday. He elaborated on Pakistan”s ongoing initiatives, undertaken in collaboration with the FAO, to update its agrifood frameworks through enhanced water stewardship, diversified cultivation patterns, and the adoption of climate-responsive farming techniques.

The Minister also underscored the increasing integration of innovation across the agricultural sector. This includes leveraging digital technologies, data-driven guidance systems, and precision farming methods to bolster productivity and optimise resource utilisation.

Furthermore, Mr Hussain stated that Pakistan is closely collaborating with the FAO to transition from disparate projects to cohesive, data-informed investment strategies. These strategies are designed to attract both public and private sector funding.

Concluding his remarks, Rana Tanveer Hussain stressed that agrifood transformation cannot be realised in isolation, advocating for stronger regional collaboration to achieve these vital objectives.
