Balochistan Health Card Programme Extends Critical Care to Hundreds of Thousands

Balochistan’s Chief Minister, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, has affirmed that the Balochistan Health Card Programme has facilitated free and high-quality medical services for a substantial number of citizens, with over 345,000 patients reportedly having received treatment to date.

In a statement issued from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat today, Mr Bugti elaborated that every citizen’s computerised national identity card now serves as their health card. This initiative encompasses a vast network of prominent private and public hospitals, accessible not only within Balochistan but across the entire nation.

Delving into the programme’s achievements, the Chief Minister highlighted that 69,000 dialysis sessions, over 44,000 chemotherapy sessions, and more than 1,200 radiotherapy sessions have been completed through the health card scheme.

For individuals suffering from cardiac ailments, the programme has seen 7,784 angioplasties and 575 bypass surgeries successfully undertaken. Additionally, free treatment was provided for 304 paediatric heart conditions, marking a significant public convenience, according to Mr Bugti.

Further statistics released indicate that 3,412 neurosurgical procedures and 12,300 orthopaedic operations have been performed. The Health Card has also covered 183 cases requiring burns and plastic surgery.

Regarding maternal and child welfare, over 55,000 cases have been managed, benefiting thousands of women. This includes 24,688 normal deliveries and 20,344 Caesarean sections facilitated under the programme.

Mr Bugti reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to ongoing improvements and the expansion of amenities within the health sector.
