Over 1,400 students at the University of Turbat received laptops under the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme today, marking a significant step in digital empowerment, with Prof. Dr. Manzoor Ali Mirani, Pro Vice Chancellor of Sukkur IBA University, attending as the chief guest.
Prof. Dr. Manzoor Ali Mirani, alongside Vice Chancellor UoT Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan and IBA’s Director ORIC, Prof. Dr. Javed Ahmed Shahani, participated in the distribution.
The event saw the presence of UoT Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Kamal Ahmed, Registrar Ganguzar Baloch, Director Public Relations Ijaz Ahmed, and Director Staff and Protocol to Vice Chancellor Sukkur IBA University, Meraj Muhammad Mahar, among other officials and a substantial student cohort.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. Mirani lauded the University of Turbat’s impressive academic advancements and infrastructural growth under Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan’s leadership. He commended the institution’s dedication to quality education and the resolve of its students in pursuing advanced learning.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, joined by Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Kamal Ahmed, underscored the university”s commitment to equipping students with contemporary proficiencies. He extended his appreciation to Prof. Dr. Javed Ahmed Shahani for his ongoing guidance, particularly in facilitating international research prospects and securing funding for a smart classroom through the European-funded Project ERAMUS+, while also bolstering the university”s internationalisation efforts.
The Vice Chancellor further highlighted ongoing initiatives to introduce IT diploma programmes, Artificial Intelligence, and other specialised courses tailored to market demands. He encouraged students to leverage the distributed laptops effectively to deepen their knowledge and cultivate digital competencies.
Engineer Bilal ur Rehman, the PM Laptop Scheme Focal Person at UoT, informed participants that over 1,400 students had successfully received devices under the initiative.
Prior to the main event, the Sukkur IBA University delegation met with the Vice Chancellor of Turbat University in his office. Discussions revolved around strengthening institutional affiliations and expanding avenues for collaborative work.
Both parties identified opportunities for joint academic curricula, faculty professional development and training, collaborative research endeavours at both national and international scales, and student exchange programmes. The delegation also toured the university’s library, smart classroom, Innovesta Lab, and other facilities.
