Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Badin, Qamar Raza Jaskani, today dismissed six officers from their duties on charges of collaborating with alleged drug smugglers. The dismissed personnel include Head Constables Munir Chandio and Allah Bukhsh Mallah, along with Constables Abdul Latif Mallah, Ali Ahmed Kathiyar, Abdul Malik Khoso, and Ghulam Rasool Khoso.
According to the SSP’s spokesperson, enforcement measures targeting drug networks in the district are ongoing. However, the public has expressed severe concerns, claiming that the drug trade is flourishing due to the involvement of powerful figures who are allegedly protected by police officers.
Critics state that authorities have not yet been able to arrest any high-level individuals involved in the narcotics trade. Instead, arrests primarily focus on poor individuals consuming local alcoholic beverages, who are subsequently charged.
Civil society organizations have unconditionally demanded that SSP Jaskani immediately arrest politically affiliated individuals directing the drug trade. They further demand a thorough investigation into police personnel involved in these illegal activities, many of whom are believed to possess properties worth millions.
