Karachi Mayor Orders Drone Surveillance to Accelerate Drain Cleaning

Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab today decided to ensure effective monitoring of drain-cleaning operations across the city and announced the use of drone technology.

Karachi, June 30: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab visited various stormwater drains to review sanitation arrangements and monitor the ongoing drain-cleaning campaign. He also conducted a detailed inspection of the cleaning work at Gujjar Nullah. On the occasion, the Senior Director of Municipal Services briefed him on the progress of the operation and the measures being taken to complete the work.

Mayor Wahab said that the cleaning of major drains across the city was progressing rapidly. He noted that the drains in District South had been inspected the previous day, while those in District Central were reviewed on Monday. He directed that the cleaning work be carried out with complete transparency and efficiency to ensure the drainage system remains functional during the monsoon season.

He appealed to citizens not to throw garbage into drains, saying that waste dumped into waterways obstructs the flow of water and can cause serious problems during heavy rainfall. He added that public cooperation was essential for improving the city’s sanitation and drainage system.

He said that the drain-cleaning system was being strengthened and made more transparent through the use of modern technology. He announced that drone technology would also be deployed to monitor the cleaning work, helping improve the speed, quality, and transparency of operations.

He said that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation was taking all necessary measures in preparation for the monsoon season and was fully equipped to respond to any emergency situation. He assured citizens that they would not be left unattended under any circumstances and that all available resources were being utilized to strengthen the city’s drainage system.

Mayor Wahab further said that improving urban services, including drain cleaning, remained one of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s top priorities. He added that the city’s infrastructure was being upgraded through modern techniques and effective monitoring. He directed the concerned officers to complete the cleaning work within the stipulated timeframe and ensure continuous field monitoring.
