The demand for equal salaries and benefits for the provincial assembly members across Pakistan has been revived by the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Faisal Karim Kundi. In a strong statement, Kundi highlighted the compensation disparity of KP assembly members and police officers compared to other provinces, appealing for equality to acknowledge justice and sacrifices, especially in the fight against terrorism.
Kundi emphasized that the allowances of KP assembly members should be in line with those of other provincial legislators, promoting uniformity in compensation. The governor extended this appeal to the police force, highlighting the crucial role of KP police officers in the fight against terrorism. He pointed out that their current wages lag behind those in other regions, demanding adjustments to bring them at least on par with other provinces.
The governor’s statements also mentioned the issue of blue passports, which are typically a privilege administered by the federal government. Kundi insisted that if parliamentarians from other provinces are given this document, KP assembly members should not be excluded from it, ensuring equal treatment across all provinces.
Kundi’s statements reflect ongoing concerns about equal treatment and recognition for KP’s public servants, advocating for reforms to address these disparities and honor the services of those who serve under challenging conditions.
