Criticizing the Sindh government’s attitude regarding wheat hoarding and flour shortage, Pasban Democratic Party Vice Chairman Rafiq Khaskheli today accused the authorities of protecting profiteers while citizens are struggling with rising food prices.
Khaskheli criticized the provincial administration, questioning the effectiveness of mere notices and meetings in resolving the hoarding issue. He pointed out that Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah’s recent actions are a vague admission of governmental failures.
Highlighting the serious consequences of these shortages, Khaskheli said that the public’s struggle for basic food indicates the government’s failure to curb the influence of powerful mafias. He emphasized that any promises of public relief are hollow until the political patronage these groups receive is challenged.
The PDP leader demanded an independent audit of the wheat and flour supply chains. According to him, such an audit is crucial not only for ensuring accountability and transparency for profiteers but also for the officials facilitating them.
Khaskheli’s statements underscore the irony of a country rich in agricultural resources yet unable to provide affordable food to its people. He attributes this paradoxical situation not to a lack of natural resources but to widespread corruption and administrative incompetence.
As Pakistan, and particularly Sindh, faces these challenges, Khaskheli’s calls for practical solutions and stringent oversight are crucial for the citizens enduring these economic pressures.
