Ziauddin University, in collaboration with the Karachi Editors Club, on Tuesday organized a workshop on the mental health and well-being of media professionals, particularly journalists who regularly face stress, trauma, and challenging field conditions. The workshop, titled “Protecting the Mind Behind the News: Building Psychological Resilience in Journalism,” focused on promoting psychological resilience and emotional well-being among media practitioners.
The workshop was conducted by Prof. Dr. Jamshed Ahmed, a psychologist at Ziauddin University. During the session, the resource person shared practical techniques for stress management, building emotional resilience, and maintaining psychological well-being in high-pressure working environments.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the psychological challenges faced by reporters and journalists, promote healthy coping strategies, and encourage resilience while covering demanding assignments.
Highlighting the significance of Ziauddin University’s initiative, Amir Shahzad, Head of Public Relations and Communications, said that journalists dedicated themselves to informing society, often at great personal cost. He added that protecting their mental well-being was just as important as strengthening their professional skills and expressed hope that such initiatives would promote awareness and foster a culture that values psychological health within the media fraternity.
Appreciating Ziauddin University’s initiative, Karachi Editors Club President Mubasher Mir said that journalists frequently worked under immense pressure and that discussions on mental health were essential for building a healthier and more resilient media community.
The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, providing participants with an opportunity to share their experiences and interact with the expert. At the conclusion of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Jamshed Ahmed distributed certificates among the participants.
