Abbottabad student torture case suspect not yet arrested, search ongoing

The main suspect in the Abbottabad student torture case has not been arrested yet, but the search is ongoing. In a horrific incident at Police Station Bakot, a young student, Hashir Taj Awan, gave his statement today under Section 164 before Area Magistrate Muhammad Tariq Khan. Accompanied by his parents and local law enforcement, Hashir’s testimony is expected to advance the investigation, and efforts to arrest the suspect have intensified.

Hashir’s father, Muhammad Taj, expressed disappointment over the lack of arrests but acknowledged Bakot police’s supportive attitude. Authorities, including SP Jamilur Rahman Qureshi, SHO Bakot Sardar Imtiaz, and Investigation Officer Musaddiq Shah, have assured that the suspect will be arrested soon, and investigations of detainees are ongoing.

Despite assurances and visits from political and social figures to Hashir in the hospital, the scene in court was different. The injured student, who was visibly distressed, spent four hours with his parents, waiting for support from human rights advocates or child protection officials. The absence of local or national political representatives in court has raised concerns that this case might merely become a photo opportunity and not see effective implementation.
