Authorities in Abbottabad have issued a stern warning that institutions or schools obstructing the ongoing Measles and Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign will face action under relevant laws as the immunization effort enters its critical final phase.
The directive was announced during a review meeting at the DC Office, where the significant progress of the nationwide drive, active since November 7, was discussed. Health officials provided detailed updates on field activities and vaccination coverage to district administration leadership.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sarmad Saleem Akram, who chaired the session, expressed satisfaction with the momentum of the initiative. He instructed all field teams to achieve 100% of their targets, cautioning that any negligence or lack of cooperation would be dealt with strictly.
Underscoring the serious health risks measles and rubella pose to youngsters, the Deputy Commissioner stressed that timely inoculation is the most effective form of protection. He appealed to parents for their full support of vaccination teams, similar to polio eradication efforts, to ensure no child is left unvaccinated.
The high-level meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner General, District Health Officer Abbottabad, Assistant Commissioner Abbottabad, health coordinators, DSOs, and representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), along with other concerned officials. The campaign is set to conclude on November 29.
