The Aga Khan University”s (AKU) prominent participation in the Global Encounters Festival in Dubai highlighted pressing global challenges and showcased its far-reaching impact.
At the heart of AKU’s involvement was the ‘A Transformative Vision’ exhibition, which drew in over 5,100 visitors. This exhibition unveiled the University’s historical journey through captivating visuals and rare archival content, while a novel Virtual Reality (VR) component allowed participants to explore AKU”s campuses and research centres, including a sneak peek at the forthcoming Kampala campus. This interactive approach offered attendees an unprecedented view into AKU”s dynamic growth and enduring dedication to societal enhancement.
The festival also served as a gathering for AKU’s broad network of alumni, patrons, and allies. The ‘Friends of AKU’ reunion welcomed around 300 guests, offering a private tour of the exhibition and fostering dialogue with University leaders. This event underscored the critical role of community support in AKU’s achievements and provided a platform for alumni to engage and celebrate their collective mission of humanitarian service.
In addition to its institutional showcase, AKU leveraged the festival to address the urgent issue of climate change. The University called on attendees to act as climate advocates within their communities, emphasizing the widespread effects of environmental degradation. AKU highlighted its ongoing climate initiatives and commitment to addressing ecological challenges. A screening of the acclaimed documentary series, “Voices from the Roof of the World” (VRW), which shares narratives of perseverance from communities affected by climate change, further supported this initiative. VRW is a collaborative effort by the Aga Khan University, Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, Aga Khan Foundation, and University of Central Asia, with its fourth season set for release later this year.
