A senior ophthalmologist at Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital has been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, keenly highlighting the shortage of eye specialists across the country.
Dr. Tayyab Afghani was presented with the honor by the Pakistan Oculoplastic Association in recognition of his extensive services at an international eye conference held in Lahore on Tuesday.
During the conference, Dr. Afghani’s significant contributions to medicine and medical education were praised, while his role in treating complex diseases was described as unforgettable.
His special expertise includes ocular oncology, reconstructive surgery, and the treatment of eye tumors. He also played a key role in establishing a center for the free treatment of eye cancer.
In the academic field, Dr. Afghani has authored over sixty research papers and given more than 70 presentations in twenty countries. His work has previously been recognized with numerous awards and gold medals by international and local institutions.
Speaking to the media, the award-winning expert said that this award is a matter of pride for him and the Al-Shifa Trust. He mentioned that the hospital has spent millions of rupees on modern diagnostic and surgical equipment to meet global standards.
Dr. Afghani highlighted that Al-Shifa Trust is one of the largest training centers in the country, actively working to address the shortage of ophthalmologists identified by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan and the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council. He affirmed that the Trust’s primary focus is to provide free treatment to patients nationwide.
