In a press conference held at Thatta Press Club today, Awami Tehreek’s central president Advocate Vasand Thari, along with prominent figures including Noor Ahmed Katia, Qadir Ranto, Noor Nabi Palijo, and Abdul Razzaq Chandio, highlighted the sudden and secretive nature of this occupation. Thari accused the occupiers of demolishing existing structures and deploying personnel, including some police officers, in the area without prior warning or consent.
Thari said that this move is a planned attempt to affect Awami Tehreek’s political activities, which has a history of resistance against occupations on regional resources including islands and water bodies. The organization intends to continue its struggle with peaceful resistance in accordance with the principles set by its founder Rasool Bux Palijo.
The protest will begin on July 7 after the court hearing. The rally will depart from Makli towards Thatta and conclude with a sit-in at Rickshaw Chowk. Thari also revealed that an emergency meeting of the party’s central committee has been called to consider further actions.
The Awami Tehreek leader demanded the Sindh government and local authorities to take immediate notice of the alleged occupation. He warned that if the issue is not resolved, the intensity of protest activities may increase.
