Marriyum Aurangzeb should apologize to whole nation: CM Buzdar

LAHORE:Chief Minister of Punjab (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday strongly condemned the indecent words used against Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.

In a statement, the CM said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb has disheartened each and every Pakistani by showing her moral degradation. Usman Buzdar continued to say that it is not unusual for the PML-N leaders to use this kind of language.

Chief minister further demanded that Marriyum Aurangzeb should apologize to the whole nation for using such absurd language. The reaction came after Marriyum Aurangzeb said Imran Khan knows that time of his ouster is approaching. Addressing media persons, Marriyum said that Imran Khan cannot escape his inevitable accountability by the people of Pakistan who have suffered during his term.

Responding to PM Imran’s statement that he will be more dangerous if he is not in power, the PML-N leader said that Imran Khan’s threats of protests do not have any value. Imran Khan will find no one along his side as soon as he is removed from the position, she added.

Marriyum further said that how Imran Khan can call Shehbaz Sharif a criminal because criminal is a person who is involved in sugar and flour theft. She also claimed that Imran Khan was brought into power by deliberately failing the RTS system.

LHC declares procurement of land for Ravi Urban project as unlawful

LAHORE:Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday declared procurement of land under section iv as unlawful in its decision on petitions against Ravi River Urban Project.

The high court bench ruled that the schemes without master plan are unlawful and declared the section iv notification as void. “Agriculture lands can be procured under a legal procedure,” the bench ruled and declared the Amended ordinance against Article 120 of the constitution.

The environmental laws have been ignored in the Ravi River Urban Project, court said. “The loans for the project have been borrowed illegally,” the bench said. The court also ordered setting environmental standards for the project.

In November last year LHC had declared petitions against Ravi River Urban Project as admissible after the initial hearing. LHC Judge Justice Shah Karim heard the pleas of Sheeraz Zaka advocate and others against the Ravi River project.

During the hearing, the judge turned down the plea of the Punjab government seeking rejection of petitions against the project. In September last year, PM Imran Khan had laid the foundation stone of Ravi Riverfront Urban Development project.

It is an urban development project in Lahore that runs along the Ravi River in a northeast to southwest direction. It includes the construction of a 40,000-hectare (100,000-acre) planned city and the rehabilitation of the Ravi River into a perennial freshwater body.

Fire guts cotton at Lahore godown

LAHORE:A fire destroyed goods worth millions at a cotton godown in Lahore on Tuesday.

The blaze broke out in the godown on Lahore’s Manga Mandi Road which later brought under control by the fire fighters. Panic gripped the area soon after the incident.

Rescue 1122 launched an operation to extinguish the fire in the cotton godown. No loss of life has been reported till the filing of this report.

LHC orders cutting of trees

Lahore:Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday ordered to stop cutting of trees and rocks at tourists points of the province. Hearing a case related to the cutting of trees and rocks, The Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court asked the Punjab and federal governments about the steps taken to ensure the protection of the trees and rocks.

The court asked if there was any authority for the protection of rocks in Murree, Kahota and Kotli Satiyan. Later, the LHC bench ordered to stop cutting of trees and rocks in Murree, Kahota and Kotli Satiyan and summoned the additional secretary environment on January 31.

Separately, the Lahore High Court had sought a report from the DG PHA regarding the revival of public parks in Lahore. The orders were passed by the high court while hearing case related to the increasing threat of smog in Punjab, especially in Lahore.

The government lawyer had apprised the court that Lahore traffic police is doing their best to remove encroachment and end wrong parking. As many as 525 factories omitting pollution had been sealed, the representative of the Environmental Commission had informed the bench.

Omicron cases in Lahore surges to 830

LAHORE:Punjab Sunday recorded 93 new cases of COVID-19’s Omicron strain over the past 24 hours including 84 only in Lahore.

The tally of the new strain of coronavirus cases in Lahore has reached to 830, according to the provincial health department. According to the provincial health department, the province has overall reported 883 cases of Omicron strain, while 93 new cases in the last 24 hours.

The cases of Omicron are also being reported from other cities of Punjab apart of Lahore. Five cases were reported from Mandi Bahauddin and two each were detected in Gujrat and Jhelum.

Gas price not increased since 2019: Energy Minister

LAHORE:Federal Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar stated that the price of gas in our country has not increased since 2019, during a press conference in Lahore.

The Federal Minister for Energy said that, “The gas reserves are falling by 9%. Gas prices rose up to 5% in the world market. The price of gas in our country has not increased since 2019,” adding that, “People were concerned about the fuel adjustment charges. Electricity and gas issues have been under review.”

While talking about the development projects in Lahore the Federal Minister for Energy said that, “Work on gas, electricity and other projects have been underway in Lahore. The process of reorganization of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has begun. The government is focusing on the development of backward areas. Development projects have been underway in Lahore for the first time. We will make Lahore a fort of PTI.” “I admit that electricity prices had gone up. In the coming days, electricity will be generated from our own reserves,” added Hammad Azhar.

Omicron cases in Lahore rises alarmingly

LAHORE:The number of Omicron cases in Lahore have recorded an alarming upsurge with 95 cases of coronavirus variant in a day on Saturday.

The tally of new strain of coronavirus cases in Lahore has reached to 737, according to the provincial health department. According to the provincial health department, the province has overall reported 790 cases of Omicron strain, while 100 new cases in last 24 hours.

The cases of Omicron also being reported from other cities of Punjab apart of Lahore. “Six new cases of the Covid strain have been reported from Sheikhupura,” provincial health department reported. “The Omicron variant of coronavirus rapidly spreading in Lahore people should observe caution,” provincial health minister has said.

The health department has said that containment of the new variant of virus in Lahore has become a challenging task for the health authorities as the positivity ratio in city has soared to 16 percent today.
