Polio drive continues in Balochistan

Quetta: Anti polio campaign continued Wednesday on the third consecutive day in 21 districts of Balochistan.

More than 1.7million children below the age of five would be administered polio vaccine and drops of vitamin.

Seven thousand medical teams have been formed for the anti-polio campaign, including 488 transit and 460 fixed points.

According to Polio Emergency Cell, anti-polio campaign would continue for five days in high risks districts such as Quetta, Pishin and Killa Abdullah while in rest of 18 districts, it would continue for three days.

Arrangements have also been made at Pak-Afghan border to administer polio drops to people of all age.

Foolproof security arrangements have been made for those who have been taking part in anti-polio campaign.

Four terrorists killed at Loralai

QUETTA:Four terrorists including two suicide bombers were killed during a search operation at district Loralai of Balochistan.

According to statement issued by ISPR, four terrorists including two suicide bombers and mastermind of recent terrorist activities in Balochistan of outlawed TTP Loralai were killed. These terrorists were responsible for recent terrorist activities in Balochistan and martyrdom of six levies personnel on March 20, 2019 at Tehsil Sanjawi of district Loralai.

The operation was conducted during early hours of Saturday morning. As soon as the security forces cordoned the area, terrorists opened fire and used grenades to impede movement of security forces and tried to flee.

During intense exchange of fire, all four terrorists including two suicide bombers were killed by the security forces. Cache of weapons, suicide jackets, heavy explosive, personal belongings including services cards and NICs of Levies personnel killed at Sanjawi were also recovered.

During the operation, four security personnel sustained minor injuries.

Sports: Football: Quetta, Pishin, Khuzdar, Chaman teams qualify for Ufone Balochistan Football Cup semis

Quetta:Faizullah Agha FC Quetta, Afghan FC Pishin, Jallawan FC Khuzdar and Afghan FC Chaman have qualified for the semifinals of Ufone Balochistan Football Cup, which will be played on Wednesday here at Mali Bagh Stadium.

Two thrilling games of the Super8 were played on March 25. In the first match, Afghan FC Pishin beat Bacha Khan FC Loralai 7-6 in a close penalty shoot-out. Scoring first at the 50 minute mark, Muhammad Saleem from Bacha Khan FC Loralai kept his team ahead in the match.

However, this lead was short-lived when in the 62nd minute Sultan from Afghan FC Pishin scored an equalizer. Both the teams had scored 1 goal each at the fulltime and the match had to be decided in a penalty shoot-out which the Afghan FC Pishin won.

The second match was played between Tiger Raesani FC Quetta and Jallawan FC Khuzdar. Both teams tried very hard but were not successful in scoring until the full-time. After a sensational penalty shoot-out Jallawan FC Khuzdar emerged victorious beating Tiger Raesani FC 5-4.

On Tuesday, Afghan FC Chaman beat Panjgur FC 3-0 in a one-sided contest during the third game of the Super8 stage. Dominating the game from the start, Amanullah scored the first goal during the first half to get his team in a leading position.

Building on the early success Abdul Rahim scored the second goal to increase Afghan FC’s lead in the match. During the 73rd minute Sohrab scored another goal to seal the victory for his team.

Meanwhile, Faizullah Agha FC Quetta overcame Ballach FC Nushki 1-0 to complete semifinal line-up after close encounter.

Chairman Balochistan Football Association, Haji Abdul Rauf Notizai was the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking about the tournament he said, “This tournament has contributed in bringing raw talent in to the limelight, and I will thank Ufone in supporting and investing in this platform. Ufone’s commitment will always be remembered as the initiative that has truly revived football in the province”.

The ‘Qualifiers’ and ‘Eliminators’ were played in eight cities this year, while the Super8 matches were played on March 25 and 26. Successful teams of the Super8 will now battle it out for a place in title decider. The semifinals will be played for the first time, under flood lights, in the tournament’s history today (Wednesday), with the final scheduled for March 28.

The inaugural edition of the championship was launched in 2017 with the aim of developing football in Balochistan and providing the youth with a platform to showcase their talent. Football enjoys immense popularity among the youth in the province and is played in almost every village in the province.

Balochistan has produced numerous football stars that play at the national level, such as Fazal Muhammad and Riaz Khan, whohave previously participated in the tournament and provided insights and tips to promising, eager young footballers and students in the tournament.

The inaugural edition was held in four cities of Khuzdar, Chaman, Pishin, and Quetta with Muslim FC Chaman winning the title. The second edition which was held in 2018 was expanded to Loralai and Nushki where Aqua FC Quetta lifted the trophy.

This year is the championship’s third edition where the qualifying round was held in two additional cities of Panjgur and Gwadar. A total number of 720 young footballers and 48 teams competed ahead of the Super8 stage of the tournament.

Customs recover 6300kg betel nuts

QUETTA:Customs authorities Tuesday seized 6300 kilograms of betel nuts worth millions of rupees from passenger buses at Kolpur Customs Check post.

During checking, betel nuts were recovered from different buses. However, no arrest was made.

One dies, six injured in gas cylinder blast

QUETTA:A man died while six other persons including children were injured in a gas cylinder explosion.

According to police, the incident took place at Madani Street of Kasi Road where gas cylinder exploded in a house due to leakage, resulting in collapse of the roof of that house.

Seven people, Sajjad Ahmed son of Abdul Qayyum aged 35, Mudasir Ahmed son of Sajjad Ahmed aged 14, Mubasir Ahmed son of Sajjad Ahmed aged 12, Aimun Bibi daughter of Sajjad Ahmed aged 7, Muhammad Azeem son of Abdul Khalil aged 15, Alisba daughter of Sajjad Ahmed and Javeria were injured.

The injured were shifted to the Sandeman Provincial Hospital and later shifted to the Burn Centre of Bolan Medical Complex Hospital where Sajjad Ahmed succumbed to his injuries while other injured were being treated.

The heirs blamed that deceased Sajjad Ahmed died because of non-availability of doctors. On the request of heirs, police arrested one Dr Abdullah and shifted him to Brewry Police Station where he was being investigated.

DrAbdullah told the police that 80% body of deceased Sajjad Ahmed had already been burnt and he was shifted to the burns center very late, which resulted in his death.

Smuggled goods worth Rs13mn recovered in Quetta

QUETTA:Customs Quetta in different actions seized smuggled items worth Rs13.5million.

According to spokesman of Customs, foreign goods including 45 tons betel nut, and 60 old and new tyres were recovered from a truck and two other vehicles at Lakpass Check Post.

Assistant Collector Preventive Akmal Durrani, Check Post Incharge Gul Shair Zehri, Inspector Masum Khan and Inspector Ali Ahmed Lehri took part in the raid.

In another action, a team of Custom Station Dalbandin led by Akmal Durrani recovered 9 tons of smuggled polythene bags and used washing liquid.

Balochistan assembly summoned

QUETTA:Acting Governor Balochistan Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo has summoned the session of Balochistan Provincial Assembly on March 25, 2019 (Monday) at 4pm at Provincial Assembly Hall, Zarghoon Road, Quetta.
