Kidnapped doctor returns home after alleged payment of ransom

Quetta:The kidnapped neurosurgeon of Quetta Dr Ibrahim Khalil reached home here Wednesday after alleged payment of a huge ransom.

Sources said the family paid Rs50million to the kidnappers. However, local doctor community said the government did not play any role in safe release of the surgeon who remained in custody of the kidnappers for 48 days.

Four dead in Pasni roof collapse

Quetta:Four people died when the roof of a house collapsed at Pasni on Tuesday.

Rescue sources said roof of a house collapsed at Ward 3, Bagh Bazaar, Pasni. As a result four people died including a couple and their two children.

Bodies were shifted to local hospital and further probe began.

Bolan Medical Complex issues performance report

Quetta:Medical Superintendent, Bolan Medical Complex Hospital Quetta has issued performance report for the year 2018.

Addressing a News conference Doctor Faheem Afridi, Medical Superintendent, Bolan Medical Complex hospital said that 515953 patients were examined in Out Door Patient Department (OPDS) during the year 2018. More than 23418 patients were admitted. Surgeries on 11622 patients were carried out.

During the year 2018, medicines worth Rs30 Crore were purchased and distributed. Latest machinery for treatment of T.B and other diseases has been installed at the hospital. Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) has also been functional.

Medical Superintendent said action against the absent employees is being taken through physical verification. Attendance of staff is 95%. Revenue collection system has also been computerized.

Langove made administrator

Quetta:The Government of Balochistan, Local Government and Rural Development Department has posted Ghulam Farooq Langove, Chief Economist Quetta Development Authority as Administrator Metropolitan Corporation Quetta in addition to his own duties.

Two miners killed at Duki

Quetta:Two miners were killed when a trolley hit them in a coalmine at a Duki, Balochistan.

According to Meran Baloch, Assistant Commissioner Duki, workers Niaz Muhammad Tarakai and Sulemankhail Tarakai, citizens of Afghanistan, died in the coal mine accident.

The bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Duki where after completion of medico-legal formalities, they were sent to Afghanistan.

It may be noted that during the first 27 days of 2019, 19 miners died while other 30 injured in six accidents in different coal mines of Balochistan, whereas 29 miners had died and 84 others injured in different accidents in 2018.

Raid on passenger train, smuggled goods recovered

QUETTA:Personnel of Collectorate of Customs in different raids including raid on the Chaman passenger train recovered smuggled foreign clothes, blankets, tyres and LEDs etc., worth millions of rupees.

According to details, on a tip off, a Raid Squad headed by Assistant Collectors Akmal Durrrani and Humair Ashraf comprising Superintendent Khurshid Hasni, Inspector Naseer Shaheen, Inspector Shabbir Khan, Inspector Abdul Qahir and Inspector Qurban Hussain along with other personnel was formed.

The Squad raided a passenger train coming from Chaman to Quetta at Quetta Railway Station and recovered a big quantity of foreign blankets, foreign clothes, LEDS, TVs, tyres and gears worth millions of rupees. Frontier Corps and other institutions also assisted the Customs during raid.

Customs in another action recovered 200 bags of beetle nut and scrap worth more than two Crore rupees from a truck at Kolpur Check post. The truck was impounded.

Cold weather persists in Quetta

Quetta:Cold weather persists in Quetta; however, the Met office has predicted cold and dry weather during the next 24 hours.

According to Met office, in Quetta the lowest temperature of 3 degree centigrade was recorded, in Kalat 4 degree centigrade, in Zhob 2 degree centigrade, in Barkhan 4 degree centigrade, while 15 degree centigrade was recorded in Turbat.

The Met office has predicted that dry and cold weather will persist in most of the districts of Balochistan including Quetta during the next 24 hours.
