Anti-India demos in AJK on International Women’s Day – Press Release issued by Kashmir Media Service

Muzaffarabad, March 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): Anti-India demonstrations and other programs were held in Muzaffarabad and other areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, today. A protest demonstration was staged in Muzaffarabad under the aegis of Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir to draw the attention of international community towards the deteriorating situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). A large number of people, mostly women, gathered at Burhan Wani Chowk and staged a sit-in protest. Holding banners and placards, they chanted slogans against India and in favour of Kashmir’s freedom from Indian illegal occupation. The women and girls participating in the sit-in were raising slogans, “Stop the persecution of Kashmiri women” and “India – leave Jammu and Kashmir”.

 

Speakers on the occasion, said despite the claims of protection, restoration and success of women’s rights to the world, hundreds of thousands of Kashmiri women are still facing the worst oppression in history. “Millions of Kashmiri women are forced to live in the shadow of terror and brutality,” they said. They added that India is violating all human and feminine rights of Kashmiri women by military force under the guise of so-called democracy. The speakers said human rights organizations should play their role for the release of Aasiya Andrabi, Naheeda Nasreen, Fehmeeda Sofi and other women lodged in the jails of India and IIOJK. They also said that the United Nations should take action against Indian troops involved in rape of Kashmiri women in Kunanposhpora, Shopian double rape and murder and other such incidents.

 

The anti-India sit-in was led by Pasban-e Hurriyat women wing officials Mehnaz Qureshi, Riffat Farooq, Umm-e-Sara, Iqra Usman, Warda Manzoor along with Chairman Uzair Ahmad Ghazali, Vice Chairman Usman Ali Hashim, Shaukat Javed Mir and others. Meanwhile, a program was organized in Muzaffarabad by Tehreek Shabab-ul-Muslimeen Jammu and Kashmir Students’ Wing to express solidarity with the oppressed women of IIOJK. The program was presided over by the patron of the Muhajireen Youth Union, Sardar Ishtiaq Liaqat Awan, while the special guest was the MD Kashmir Education, Raja Gulzarin Azad. It was led by Chairman Tehreek Shabab-ul-Muslimin Jammu and Kashmir Students’ Wing, Riaz Ahmed Awan.

 

In addition to women, Faizullah Durrani, Zubair Khan Durrani, Shahid Iqbal, Arshad Awan, Imtiaz Awan and a large number of young people participated. Addressing the ceremony, the speakers paid rich tribute to the sacrifices made by Kashmiri women in the Kashmir freedom movement. They appealed to the UN to fulfill its promises made to the Kashmiris.

Trade Development Authority of Pakistan organizing Her Hunar exhibition at Pak-China Friendship Centre

Islamabad, March 04, 2023 (PPI-OT): Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) is organizing Her Hunar exhibition today at Pak-China Friendship Centre. The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Mr. Malik Ghulam M. Raza Rabbani Khar (Minister of State for Commerce).

 

While addressing the audience, he said that women empowerment is an essential component for growth in developing nations like Pakistan for lifting millions of families out of the poverty cycle. He appreciated TDAP for the initiative of Her Hunar exhibition.

 

In his welcome address, Dr. Muhammad Fareed Qureshi (Secretary, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan) apprised the audience with the basic objective of Her Hunar exhibition and expressed that TDAP will continue to support women entrepreneurs and prepare them for global market. He said TDAP will also organize similar exhibitions in other parts of the country.

 

More than 40 representatives of diplomatic community also attended the inaugural session and enjoyed cultural performance of Gilgit Baltistan, Kalash, Chitral and Kashmir. In exhibition, 130 women entrepreneurs are exhibiting their products. Public showed great interest and a large number of people are visiting the event. The exhibition would carry on till 9 pm of 5th March, 2023 with free entry

Government has allocated an amount of more than 78 billion for the next instalment of Benazir Kafalat program: Shazia Marri

Islamabad, March 04, 2023 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Shazia Marri Saturday said that the government has allocated an amount of more than 78 billion for the next instalment of the Benazir Kafalat program while the annual budget for the program is 252 billion rupees.

 

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of Benazir Dynamic Registry Center under the Benazir Income Support Program in Khangarh, she informed that so far 8 lakh 72 thousand surveys have been completed in Benazir Dynamic Registry Centers.

 

“Six Dynamic Registry Centers have been set up in Muzaffargarh district while currently, more than 3 lakh 21 thousand families in Muzaffargarh district are being given scholarships under the Benazir Income Support Program,” she stated. The political opponents criticized BISP program; however, United Nations and other reputed international organizations have appreciated it, she added.

 

The Federal Minister also talked to the beneficiaries who urged the minister to increase the number of counters. Upon receiving the request, she immediately directed the D.G Punjab and Zonal Director BISP to increase the number of centers for beneficiaries’ relief. Ms. Marri, later on, also attended the Workers Convention in Khangarh.

 

While talking to media she lamented the previous government for the current economical fiasco. She said that the previous government had inked the deal with IMF therefore, the incumbent government had no other choice but to take drastic measure in order to save the country from default. Later on, she also chaired the workers convention of Pakistan People’s Party at Khangarh. She reminisced that PPP last government had provided economic assistance to thousands of families by providing income support.

Sri Lankan HC calls for promoting cooperation among SAARC countries

Islamabad, March 01, 2023 (PPI-OT): Sri Lankan High Commissioner Mohan Wijewickrama has emphasized on promoting cooperation among SAARC countries in diverse fields, including development, trade, education, science, people to people contacts, connectivity, and tourism.

 

In an exclusive interview with Radio Pakistan’s English Channel Planet FM 87.6 today, he said Pakistan and Sri Lanka enjoy historical social, political and defence relations. He said our bilateral cooperation is improving in the field of trade and economy. He mentioned that both countries had signed Free Trade Agreement to tap the trade potential of the two nations. He highlighted that Sri Lanka was the biggest trade destination of Pakistani goods last year.

 

The High Commissioner also commended Pakistan for providing scholarships to Sri Lankan students. He said Sri Lankan institutions have great partnership with the Higher Education Commission, the National Defence University and other academic organizations to promote research.

 

Regarding enhancing connectivity between the two states, Mohan Wijewickrama wished Pakistan International Airlines direct flights to Sri Lanka. He also commended Pakistan’s support for Sri Lankan cricket team in the past.

Financing for WAPDA Projects discussed with ADB

Lahore, February 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):A 5-member delegation of Asian Development Bank (ADB) called on Chairman WAPDA Engineer Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd) today. The delegation was comprised of Executive Director for Pakistan Noor Ahmed, Executive Director for Japan Takahiro Yasui, Executive Director for People’s Republic of China Veihua Liu, Executive Director for Korea Sangmin Ryu and Director’s Advisor Ronald Ray San Juan.

The matters relating to development priorities, roadmap and financing of WAPDA projects were discussed during the meeting. Member Finance WAPDA Naveed Asghar Chaudhry and Member Power WAPDA Engineer Jamil Akhtar were also present on the occasion.

The delegation was briefed about the low-cost, clean and green energy generation plan, WAPDA is implementing on priority to minimize dependence on costly thermal electricity being generated on imported fuel and counter its adverse impact on the environment. The delegation was also apprised of WAPDA’s asset base, financial streams and innovative strategy to arrange funds for construction of its projects.

Besides discussing under-construction WAPDA projects, Diamer Basha Dam and Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project in particular, portfolio of the projects, which are ready for initiating construction work namely Thakot and Pattan, was also presented to the delegation for Projects Readiness Financing by the ADB. The delegation was also briefed about the excellent financing opportunities in WAPDA projects.

Pakistan, Russia reaffirm commitment to augment bilateral collaborations in diverse fields

 

Islamabad, February 15, 2023 (PPI-OT):Pakistan and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to augment their bilateral collaborations in diverse fields. The resolve was expressed during meeting between Ambassador of Russia to Pakistan Danila Ganich with Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The Minister highlighted the bilateral, economic and historic ties between the two countries and appreciated the progress achieved during meetings of Inter-Governmental Commission. It was also shared that the finalization and implementation of deals during these meetings will result in significant reduction in the prices of oil and gas in the country. On the occasion, the Russian ambassador said that Russia aims to utilize the fuller potential of trade existing between both countries.
